so the total to buy and fix everything that includes pickups, the guitar itself, the nut(both of them), strings, and everything to repair it came out to just over 230 bucks. im extremely satisfied with the end product. curious to hear what you guys have to say about the tone and look.

sorry i didnt respond. i have everything squared away. ended up going with a jazz pre slotted nut. fit fine and had the same exact spacing. also didnt need to file the slots at all. audio coming sometime this next week.

ok put it this way. the nut slot is small enough that the nut would fit in but big enough that i fear it moving. once its glued im sure it would be fine but would that effect tone at all?

the problem is that the slot for the nut is a weird size and i dont think i helped when i was clearing the glue out after i removed the nut. a normal 1/8 nut would be too small. i would have to get a large blank like i did this time. which i am willing to do but it was a ton of work.

ok a bit of an update. havent had the chance to really work on the bass in a while. i think i figured out my problem.... im a moron haha. the slot for the A string is too wide and the string is viprating against the inside of the Nut. so i have a few options. fix it with something (suggestions...

That seemed to work. I put the old A string on and no buzz. Just need to go get a new cobalt .

I filed with a round file using the downward stroke to follow the strings path. All of the other strings ring fine except the A.

Well... We may have an issue. I got the bass set up and slotted the nut to the right height and the A string is buzzing. I don't think its coming from the nut. But, I can't actually hear where its coming from. It only buzzes when open which points to the nut but I can't figure out why the nut...
