Good to have updates, but the updates need more photos! I can't imagine what wondrous results you are producing without some images.

You are causing yourself a bit more work than necessary. GraphTech makes a 1/8" nut blanks, pre slotted, and pre formed nut blanks that would have made your life a lot easier. Its not easy taking half of the thickness of the blank off, I've been there.

That's what I was originally going to do until andii told me that I should slot the nut myself. I couldn't find any smaller blanks or I would have gotten it. But it isn't that bad I used a small saw to get it to the right width and its just a matter of thickness and height

The only problem with a pre slotted nut, is that sometimes people think they are a drop in replacement, and require no slot filing or fitting once they are installed. If I am doing a nut job on a P or Jazz bass and need a standard sized nut, I always opt for pre slotted because it is a time saver.

ok nut is in and strings are on. did a rough set up and the bass sounds pretty good but still needs a few tweeks. i think the nut needs to be a little shorter. i had a spacer but i wasnt exact on every slot. so i will need to go back and do some more fine tunes. i will however try and record a short video here in a sec to give you guys an idea of what it sounds like right now.

Well... We may have an issue. I got the bass set up and slotted the nut to the right height and the A string is buzzing. I don't think its coming from the nut. But, I can't actually hear where its coming from. It only buzzes when open which points to the nut but I can't figure out why the nut would be buzzing. Any suggestions?

Buzz is a bad word to use but the harmonics are way off. It has this gong sound to it this "pwong" sound. Sorry no better way to describe it.

If the A string 'pwongs' while open, but not when fretted at the first position, I'd expect that maybe the nut was filed a touch too low. You can try to shim the string a bit higher at the nut by wrapping it in tape or paper or something to confirm. I've had to do this once with taper core bass strings that were a bit too short :/

i tried paper just now and it really didnt change anything. the sizzle like the article puts it is there either way. it really does remind me of a sitar. idk ive been thinking about trying to take it to someone to have that slot transplanted. i did alright on the other slots but i think my file may have been too wide. its really frustrating.
