Was easy enough. Looking at the nut I think the nut I was going to get originally would have been fine but the blank nut will be OK.

So I was able to clear the really loose stuff out of the hole in the body and it is deeper than I had hoped. It looks like there was a knot in the bass and they tried to hide it and it just kind of fell appart.
Yea. Its fixable but its frustrating that I had to fix it. I had wood filer but someone left the lid open a crack and its has hard as can be lol. Its sad really besides these few things that are wrong with the bass. It is actually quite beautiful. Love the color.
So I took apart the rest of the bass. Everything else is sound. But I took a look at a proper wire diagram for the pickup I'm getting and the way this bass is wired is all wrong so me and my friend who is helping me with the pickup are gonna have to re wire everything. The way it is set up right now should be 1 volume, 2 tone... But the way its wired one tone knob is just chained to the next... So the 2nd is useless. But good for me the set up I want is 2 volume 1 tone. So I can go single coil or double which will be nice. So this is both annoying and good the manufacturer is stupid but they were close enough that I won't have to change much to fix it.
Here is the question of the century. Since I have so much tusq to work with do I try and make the slot bigger so I can get a bigger nut in? Or do I leave it alone and have the thinner nut?
Remember to try and give your nut a slight asymmetric shape so that the fingerboard side of the nut has more of a straight edge.

Can you elaborate on that a bit more? What do you mean by asymmetric. I know I need to slot it so that the slots follow the strings downward. Is that what you mean?
At first, i thought you were actually going to put a pre-amp in it just like the stingrays. But this seems pretty cool too, at least it's different than just being able to add/cut bass, treble & mids.
I had thought about adding a stacked pot for control over those tones but I'm planning on getting a hartke VXL bass attack preamp for that.

me either. gonna try and get the hole filled tomorrow. because i dont want to fit the nut until i have the pickup. so once i get the pickup and get it installed the nut and set up will be the last thing i need to do and she will be done!
Spent yesterday and today filling the hole. Took a couple of passes with it until it feels sound. Last one is still drying. Gonna sand it tomorrow if it's cured

Oh BTW I hate FedEx lol. They never update their tracking info. As of Monday at 124 am the pickup left grove city ohio. I'm from Allentown PA that's a 8-9 hour drive... I just wanna know where the package is... Haha is that so wrong?
So on top of working on the bass I'm working on a cover to show off the bass once I'm finished. Hopefully you guys don't think the song is played out, its fun to play and hopefully explains how I'm feeling about the bass
