Ok that's Carol Kaye vs James Jamerson on bass comparison and Tommy Tedesco vs Eddie Willis/Joe Messina/Robert White. I couldn't choose a best representative guitar player from the funk brothers because those 3 are so close skill level wise. Whereas Tedesco is definitely the best guitar choice...

Does anybody on here have the jaco pastorius modern electric bass book? I saw that the DVD by itself is 26 and the book with the DVD is 20 but it doesn't say if it's the full dvd version. I'm sceptical about buying the cheaper book with dvd because it seems to good to be true. Any thoughts?

He was definitely a composer first and foremost. The only reason he ever played bass was because it was easier as a front man. If anything he's more of a piano/keyboard player than a bassist!
