    band song selection

We have a fairly democratic process in our band, we all need to like the song or at least think it adds something to our set list. If not then it gets canned. Our singer does get veto if he feels it is out of his range and we can't pull it off. Quite often we end up transposing the song into a...

$19.95 tuner as good as TU-3

I'm using an ancient Boss TU12H bought in the 80's I think. Still works so if / when it dies I will buy another Boss or maybe a Korg. I can't fault Boss build quality :) For what it costs and how long they last ( for me anyway ) I would stick to tried and true.

Getting the Most Out of 1 or 2 Drum Mics

We only use 2 Mics on the drums, Basic Audix F6 on the kick and the second microphone, usually an Audix i5 placed above the kick aimed at the drummer, which captures the snare, toms and H/hats. It is now known as "ball sack " microphone. Cymbals just seem to cut or bleed through regardless and...

I narrowed it down to two

Stingray because that is what I have, totally biased response of course. :) All joking aside Rays are extremely well made but try em both to see which "speaks" to you.

    Mesa Boogie and other brands

Thanks for the suggestion but it might be a bit tricky for a private seller to organise the international shipping, also I would be a bit concerned about buying a second hand unit from overseas.

    Mesa Boogie and other brands

I would be really keen to try a Subway D800 but the prices here in New Zealand are prohibitive. RRP is NZ$1,799 while the online US$ price at Sweetwater is US $699. Even taking into account local taxes, freight and exchange rates, this difference does not add up. You guys don't know how lucky...

Experiences switching "back" to a 4-string after playing 5?

I went from an Ibanez SR405 to a 4 string EBMM Ray. The string spacing on the SR didn't work for me, or the sound come to that:)

    NAD - Jansen Liberator 9-180

Nice amp, as a fellow Kiwi, I have never seen one of these though I have played through a 50 Bassman many times.

Do You Own Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow

Agreed, I prefer the live versions but still like both the studio albums.

    5 Favorite Bassists?

In no particular order. Dee Murray Tiran Porter Paul McCartney Mark King Geedy Lee / Chris Squire ( I know this is cheating but it depends on what prog mood I am in. ) ;)

"your rig or the gig is cancelled"

Not your problem, you are the bass player in a band not a rental company. No excuse with todays lightweight gear.

    What was your first pedal?

Electroharmonix Small Stone Phaser bought in 1980. How things have changed, or maybe not :)
