The Piqnic (dark shoegaze with heavy bass)

Great, glad you like it! Sadly, they only released 300 copies of their latest album Zyouk and I'm not sure where you can find a copy at the moment. Norman Records has it on display at their website but evidently they don't actually have any. I'll keep an eye out and post again if their stuff...

The Piqnic (dark shoegaze with heavy bass)

I have both a video from a concert and a link to some songs on soundcloud. The quality of the video isn't the best but you can see the bassist perform most of the time. They're all solid as a unit, though, to be sure -- it's just that this isn't at all the norm to hear the bass featured this way...

    Speed -_-

I get what you're saying -- very philanthropic of you, actually. Ordinarily I would say you're right. There's some history here you're not aware of though. It was no problem. :) Thanks for the advice everyone! That's basically what I'm doing -- playing it really slow (I couldn't play it faster...

    Speed -_-

After flawlessly playing through songs like "Money" by Pink Floyd like some kind of prodige my instructor is trying to give me songs that will challenge me to help me build speed. The song we're working on right now is "What You're Doing" by Rush (awesome instructor, huh?!). The part I'm...

Tell Absolute First Bass Inspiration In Your Life (famous or not)

Don't hate on its simplicity, it's catchy and edgy as hell. First bass line that stood out to me more than any other element in the song.

Benefits of Tuning Down your Instrument

lulz Good points everyone. So far I've only played in Standard and D but a lot of stuff I listen to sounds like it's lower... I'm guessing C. I love the bass in Isis and I'm pretty sure it's in bead. Right now I'm just doing my lessons and learning where everything is in standard but I'm sure...

Benefits of Tuning Down your Instrument

Are there any benefits to tuning down bass besides simply getting a lower sound? Since it changes where you play certain chords, can it give other advantages besides just sounding lower?

    Robin of Exivious Bass Video

In spite of a lot of prog. metal becoming somewhat predictable, there are gems still in that genre. Some do it differently from others, some do it better than others. I find Exivious falls in in the latter category.

    RYOKUCHI: Fretless Sludge from Japan

There I was browsing Metal-Archives again. Something possessed me to look for Sludge metal from Japan -- not sure why, only Sludge band I have from Japan is Corrupted. Clicked on another one of those bands that turns out to only have a few releases and no full album releases so I think I'll pa--...

    Good Stoner Doom\Drone Bassist Equipment

Orange seems to work for Wata's guitar drones, at least. ;o

    ChaotH on his 9-string

Old video here, but I haven't seen Unexpect mentioned in my browsing yet, so I was wondering: any fans of ChaotH and/or Unexpect here? This is kind of my go-to video for showing ignoramuses that bass isn't just for hammering on the E-string for 30 notes. Granted, it's done on a 9-string so...

Last Albums You Listened To In Their Entirety?

Listened to Ganz ins Herz by German Sludge/Doom band, Crowskin. First 6 songs are longer and tend to move at a slower tempo, then there's a kind of atmospheric interlude, and the rest of the songs are hard hitting and shorter. I found that I preferred the end of the album though it was solid in...

    Uh... yo?

Ahahaha, Lars stories are the best! I should make a folder on my computer that has the best ones for easy access. Ah, true. I didn't burn him too bad -- maybe it's not too late. Just hard to decide what to play when I can only choose songs that are under four minutes. @_@

    Uh... yo?

I'm a bass newbie. Like, seriously fresh newbie. I just got a bass about a month ago and had a week vacation, so I've been playing for maybe 3/4 weeks? I don't know why I did it... I always wanted to be a guitarist, though I appreciated bass and other instruments, then one day I was like, "dude...
