    ‘Breaking In’ Speakers: For Real?

When I bought a Barefaced compact 10 years ago, I was advised, by Barefaced, to play a wav mp3 file, of a low frequency tone they supplied, through the cab for a few hours. This supposedly allowed me to 'run in' the speakers before their first gig. I bought a Barefaced Super Compact a couple...

Is 100 solid-state watts enough for stage monitoring?

I play in a country band with a quiet drummer and my Rumble 100 is loud enough, without PA support. On the other hand, when I play in my rock band, with a loud drummer and PA support, my 100 watt combo is not loud enough to keep up with the drums. So, to answer your question, it really depends...

Prince Smashes Captain Kirks (of the Roots) Vintage Guitar

I heard from Mike Scott, who played with Captain Kirk at Carnegie Hall on the 7th at the Prince tribute gig, that the guitar has been repaired and there's no hard feelings. He was playing it that night. All's well that ends well.

    fender bassman tv discontinued?

Sorry to hear the TV series has been discontinued. I loved my TV15 and if it wasn't for the 3 flights of stairs, that I had to carry it up every night after a gig to get to my apartment, I'd still have it. It had so much character compared to the usual little black boxes you get from other bass...

    Squier Jazz Bass Silver Series

I have a silver series squier jazz made in 1994 and the best thing about it is the pickups. I also owned a Geddy Lee and a 62 reissue Jazz both made in Japan. I preferred the sound of the silver series as it had a much deeper sound (still very much a jazz bass sound) so ended up selling both my...

Trying to get rid of a specific tone

Strings make a big difference. I know what you mean by the 'hollow sound'. I never liked the sound of brand new Rotosound roundwounds until they get played in because of that exact characteristic. Ernie ball strings on the other hand don't seem to need that playing in period and don't have a...

    Well done Rotosound!

If you want to retain the brightness with Rotosound roundwounds, if you de-tune the strings when you put your bass away you'll find they sound a lot brighter when you re-tune them and start to play. It doesn't take long for them to get their snap back - possibly an hour or so.
