I have a silver series squier jazz made in 1994 and the best thing about it is the pickups. I also owned a Geddy Lee and a 62 reissue Jazz both made in Japan. I preferred the sound of the silver series as it had a much deeper sound (still very much a jazz bass sound) so ended up selling both my other jazzes. I've fitted a Fender Classic 60s neck and a John East preamp and it sounds fantastic.
So don't change the pickups.....you might end up regretting it.
