not sure if works on a Mac because I've never tried but "Audacity" is a free program, google it. short learning curve, select the right input (usually line-in or mic) import the track you want to play along with and press record. You should be able to hear your bass or guitar while playing...

Totally agree, I don't think any of his bass players would have played the bassline in "All Along the Watch Tower" nearly as well as Hendrix did. I'm glad Noel Redding decided to quit during production. The bass makes that song.

I don't know what it is but I just can't get into this stuff. To me it seems like lots of flash with an occasional out of place note..or 12. And it's not this guy in particular, I feel the same way about everything I've ever heard from Jaco. Actually I think I might have played this same song...

Just be sure that what you are buying is an actual Gibson, especially if you buy online. China is producing fakes by the thousands and they do make it to the American market..even in stores. A place like Musiciansfriend would be a good place to get a new one. Plus their return policy is great...
