Best Youtube Bassist?

This guy:

A cover of Selegehammer is the best playing you've seen on Youtube?

Some great players have been showcased, but I'm a little surprised overall. Talk about a wankfest.

So many of these guys are playing songs that are just fast riffs. It's like "pick any series of notes" and play them as fast as possible. Then stick it together with a jaunting line in an odd time signiture. Then a quick atonal lick. Then play another fast riff. That's music?

There's no musicality. No voice leading. No counterpoint. No melody. No groove. No originality. All the things that make the bass so magnificent.

Maybe I've just gotten too old.

You ever thought that it's their moment to shine.

I'm sure some of the guys that you're complaining about really can do all the other things that you think make a bass player a bass player. And I'm sure a lot of them actually may sound great in a band context.

my man SlikkTim all the way!!!

Check him out, he's 22 and he's already a great musician (he plays bass, guitar, keys, drums and sings pretty well too)
very creative and genuinely versitile.

Here are only 2 examples (but he uploaded lots of great vids):

I get that. Then again, just like there used to be "music store chops", now I think there's "Youtube video chops." Nothing worng with it. I've got chops too. I just don't understand what's so impressive about some of these guys.

Hey, you want YouTube chops? Beat THIS!

kinda odd that the clip you singled out is not what you went on to rant about.
