    120 dB onstage ! ! !

From the NASA web site, "The Saturn V generated a sound level of 91 decibels from a distance of 9384 m." That's about 6 miles. So the sound at 3 miles from the pad surely didn't exceed 97 dB. Loud, but not damaging to the ears, considering the FLetcher-Munson curve.

    Worst band you've ever seen?

Worst pro band? I took my daughter to see Oasis. What a bunch of arrogant, whiny pr*cks. Talked down to the audience all evening and just walked off stage at the end. Even the lighting people didn't realize they weren't coming back for an encore till they were probably in the bus and gone...

"Official" Mikro Bass Club Part 2

There are three measurements of force that can be applied to a string: tension, torsion and bending. Tension is along the length of the string (only), bending is at right angles to the length of the string and torsion is a twisting force around the axis of symmetry. They are independent forces...

4-string Mikro: Width at Nut 38mm Width Last Fret 58.5mm 5-string Mikro: Width at Nut 45mm Width Last Fret 67mm They are both very close in thickness. The 4-string is roughly as wide as a j-bass neck, and the 5-string is roughly as wide as a p-bass 4-string neck.

The thickness and winding of the string around the core. A thin or simple string under high tension might still bend very easily because it is too thin to resist deformation, but a heavy, wound string actually resists bending because the windings press against each other and resist lateral...

"Official" Mikro Bass Club Part 2

No, and yes. It's actually slightly better-balanced than the Mikro 4 that I have. And it's very quiet as long as both pickups are cranked up to the same level; this also seems to give more bass than midrange. turning one pickup higher than the other seems to cause some mid peaking.

Not a bit disappointed - the setup was almost perfect after I tuned and tweaked the intonation. I did have to raise the E just a half-turn of the set screws to keep it from buzzing when I play hard. For the inevitable naysayers: 1) I have maybe 1/4" left on the B string saddle intonation...

    5 string short scale flats

Sorry to re-open this thread, but the subject is exactly what I was hoping to see: 5-string short scale flatwounds! I just bought an Ibanez GSRM25. My regular 4-string Mikro has a set of D'Addario Chromes on it (ECB81S), and I love love love them. All I really need is a flatwound low B around...

...and this is why. Haven't played her yet; it was über cold outside today and I'm letting everything settle before doing the setup and tuning. Feels very nice though; typical Ibanez fit and finish, good balance - and of course the slimmest 5-string neck I'm likely to ever be able to afford...

I love the Chromes on my Mikro. Great sounding, easy to play, and I'm sure they'll last forever. Now if only D'Addario made a 5-string SS set...

I use a Kaces guitar case and it fits perfectly. It has good support for the neck and room for the angled headstock.

    3/4 scale players?

I gig almost 100% with my Mikro. Love it and feel no need to play a full scale bass except as a stretching exercise. I don't care what the elitists think. :-)

    About Short Scale Basses

If you really have trouble with reach on a J bass, then try out some short scales. Only you can decide if the shorter scale suits your style. Availability of instruments and strings is not an issue if you shop around. I love my shorties and find them much easier to play, while sounding fine.

Daisy Rock, girl bass guitars, opinions?

Come on over and talk to the Mikro Club members at Link Removed. I've played several, and with a little setup care, they're fine. No need to spend $1000 on a bass unless it feels/plays better to you.
