NBD times three, including a Fakenbacker

When I did the test/review of a Chinese Ric it had what appeared to be that same bridge. Was surprisingly well made but for one rather odd but serious shortcoming. No radius adjustments (all saddles made same height) they basically totally ignored the radius of their fingerboard! The cheap n'...

    Herbie Flowers Space Oddity

Learning this (Space oddity ) for an audition. Was a godsend to find the iso track and those transcriptions/tabs on You Tube !!! Even if I bomb the audition i am now "woke" to Herbie Flowers :bassist:

    Jack Casady Wiring Fun

Thanks for that! I had seen it, but I talked to Epiphone and cannot remember a more rude unpleasant unhelpful person outside of those working the midnight shift at a highway gas station. Considering the frequency of issues with this part, rather surprising it has not appeared aftermarket. My...

    Jack Casady Wiring Fun

Trying to help a friend out with his JC. It has super low output compared to my JC - about half the volume at best. He did not realize it until I brought mine over to compare to his! I have read the past threads here on TB about the unique electronics. Somebody modded the wiring at some point -...

Is this really what they're worth?

I doubt it is legit. Look closely at the cut of the heel of the body. THEN go look at verified pics of 1963 JB's - That hard edged heel? Nope...Rounded off. I suspect aftermarket body (explains the finish too) I would guess it is a 63 neck "parts bass".

Results are IN! Year long test of anti tarnish project

No, not really I said : a strip laid down over the length from tuners to bridge - no "wrapping" implied or stated. Just LAYING the strip of fabric on the strings and closing the case. Adds 10 sec to closing my case and keeps frets and metalwork looking spanky fresh. Fortunately nobody is...

Results are IN! Year long test of anti tarnish project

Not really practical to wrap your whole bass in plastic? I am not talking about stored parts. Talking about whole functioning basses in their cases. Have noticed the likelihood of tarnishing varies greatly with the maker. My Epi EB3 is the biggest tarnish magnet I have ever owned. That is what...

Results are IN! Year long test of anti tarnish project

Not about the playability - of course any instrument should meet that mark to be taken seriously. Fake relics are like silicone boobs or buying service medals and never having been in the military. An honestly beat up bass is a story unto itself!

Results are IN! Year long test of anti tarnish project

To each his own. Tarnish annoys the bejezus out of me. But then I think "relic'd " instruments were invented to part posers from their money.

Results are IN! Year long test of anti tarnish project

I have been experimenting with using the impregnated fabric they use in the jewelry and silverware industry to prevent fret tarnish and hardware degradation. After over a year of using this stuff in long term storage on my Rics, my Epi EB3, and several others - I can report it really works...

    Why have so many basses?

I see the intent of the OP did come across in a way that is easy to take several ways. Going with the stated intention? I have 14 right now. Many I built from parts and almost all I have modded. Most are rather modest in price - Brice 5 string fretless ($300) and an Epi EB3 ($300) at the bottom...

To me, the Bass should be felt more so than heard

Huh, I never knew Geddy, Squire, and Entwistle were doing it wrong all those years... Need to get Flea the memo!:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Ever wanted to buy back your long lost bass?

Oh yeah...JUST missed the chance on Ebay a few months ago ~!! Didn't have the cash and a 70s Univox Coily semi hollow body (my first real bass) was up for only $350 in MINT condition. AND in my fave color - Trans Green Emerald Burst Told the guy hit me back if it didn't sell (it didn't) Was...

Talk me into/out of a SUBRay

A lot of truth in that! I fully admit as said earlier, NOT "the same" as a Full on Stingray but for me hits the marks quite well. Biggest weakness is the same as the Epi EB3 - the electronics. In both basses, the configuration is a lot simpler with less flexibility. Epi EB3 lacks that involved...
