    DR Neon String Users

I'm glad I found this thread. I just put a set of DR White Neons on one of my Squier 5 string Jazz basses. I admit, the only reason I bought them is because I thought a white bass would look cool with white strings on it. The other bass has TI flats on it. The two basses are identical besides the...

Help me locate a CV 60's Precision

I had a MIM Fender, and I just recently acquired a 60s CV. I would say the MIM Fender was a slightly better instrument after I filed the frets down.

    SOLD BBE Sonic Stomp

Do you still have this? I'll take it if you do.

What song are you listening to right this moment?

Does anyone know who played bass on this? The tone reminds me of 60s Carole Kaye.

How long does it take TI Flats to break in?

I have had TIs on my main bass since January of this year. I play a gig about 1 to 2 times a week, and some weeks practice for several days, and other weeks don't practice at all. I feel they have finally broken in.

Why the dislike for Jeff Ament?

I've always thought he was categorically awesome. I find it very odd that anyone can find anything bad to say about him.

    String/Bass combos "meant to be"

I'll bite. I've always liked LaBella 760FL on a P-bass. Just enough mid-range growl to let you know it's a P, but mellow enough to tame the harshness of the P pickup.

    Dullest flat wounds?

Out of the package, I'd say DR Legends would be the ones with the strongest fundamental, and a very rubbery attack. You could call that "dull." GHS Precision flats are close, but they have a weird "hard" kind of attack. They dull pretty quickly though. I couldn't keep either set on for very long...

Which lower tension Flats for stand up tone ?

TIs have long sustain and are very bright when new. These things don't add up to an upright sound. LaBellas have some of that mid growl that people associate with upright bass. TIs have much lower tension, but the LaBellas will be closer to the sound you are looking for. Both will take a long...

Let's talk about low B strings

What about stepped windings on the B string? It seems a lot of people say this causes some intonation problems.

Let's talk about low B strings

I've been a 4 string player for well over 20 years, and just got my first 5 string 2 years ago. I've had LaBella flats on it, now I have TI flats. I just got a second 5 string that's pretty much this bass's twin brother so I could put rounds on it. As I look for strings, I noticed that B strings...

    Neck twist

It's not really enough to be visible. The issue is that the E string side is bowed while the G side is straight. Adjusting the truss rod until the E side is straight results in some back-bow on the G side.

    Neck twist

I've searched, and understand that usually the repair for this is to plane the fretboard down. This isn't really an option on this bass. Additionally, it seems to have happened all of a sudden. The weather here has been very up and down, temperature wise; and I just changed the brand, type, and...
