Dullest flat wounds?

Agreed, no confrontational insults needed here. There are already plenty to go around.

Nonetheless, I have to disagree with your statement about "round tone". My take on "round tone" is old-school (because I'm old-school) and is what I get out of my Jazz with volumes and tone dimed using my DR Black Beauty strings. Without the mids and highs the tone would be what I would refer to as one-dimensional. Others would call that flat and lifeless. Even my old '65 Jazz with flatwounds had that round, more complete tone. Of course, my comparison of that tone was compared to the 60's Gibson SG bass which was around when I was playing in the mid-60's. It was the exact opposite of the sound I was getting. The sound out of my Jazz was so much more defined and alive than the sound out of the SG's at the time that I referred to their tone as flat and mine as round. So it's good that you clarified what you were looking for.

The sound of my Jazz with the bridge pickup turned off is much more one dimensional than with the bridge and neck both going at once, but still has a roundness to it (per my definition). The neck turned off and the bridge maxed sounds pretty harsh to me, but still not one-dimensional and the antithesis of what you are looking for. Dead strings sound one dimensional or "flat" to me and it sounds like that's what you need to tame your Guild. You may just have to buy some strings and play the heck out of them until that get down to the sound you're looking for.

It's ok, I have been introduced to the technological marvel that is the foam mute :)

I been use 760FL, 9050 , Chrome, SadowBlck Flat ....... but , until i have a set of DR Legend, this is the Dullest sounding and stiffest feeling flat although it tension just little bit higher then 760FL, tab lower than Chrome.

But, the DR Legend could produce the light-Mute-P-Vibe without add mute foam. Maybe this is the bonus for somebody, and could be suck tone for others.

Out of the package, I'd say DR Legends would be the ones with the strongest fundamental, and a very rubbery attack. You could call that "dull." GHS Precision flats are close, but they have a weird "hard" kind of attack. They dull pretty quickly though. I couldn't keep either set on for very long since I needed versatility with my main bass at the time. I might give the DRs another try, but the Precision flats seemed to be very stiff and pretty high tension for my tastes.

I like LaBella flats for an old school sound, but they are actually pretty bright out of the package, and take a while to break in. Once broken in, which is about 6 months for me, they get a pretty good old school sound, but they seem to lose a lot of sustain, and some playability at that point.

Most recently I've been using TIs, which are probably the brightest flats I've ever used. I've had a set on for about 8 months now, and they are just about perfect. They have dulled nicely, but still retain the sustain and playability that everyone raves about.
