A bit of an update. I came across an ad looking for a rookie bassist. Basically, a songwriter wants a bassist to his guitar parts, but one that will be happy playing simple lines and not trying to improv or go wild. Sounds perfect to get some experience.

Thanks for the advice. I used a RAM module, as you mentioned, and the 2nd fret is indeed high under the E string. It's a little high under the A, as well, but it still clears so that's not too big a deal. So knowing this, I need to try and tap it down, or failing that, sand/level that end gently?
