    any other "handicapped" bass players?

I worked on a toxic waste superfund site, for 22 years, without my knowledge. My employer lied and covered it up. I ended up with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, and Degenerative Disc Disease from it. The pain limits the amount I can play, but I still do alright. My...

Jazz width neck on which other basses?

EBMM does a Jazz neck, they call a SLO Special. Rickenbacker necks are pretty comfy, too. A little wider at the nut, but narrower at the body.

    Used Bass on a Budget

I don't think so. Either one can be hit or miss. I had an 07/08 MIM and it was very solid. Personally, I'd take the MIM over the CV or VM, any day.

Why is it so hard to find a Rick to try out?

New Rickenbackers tend to get snapped up as soon as they hit the wall. In fact, most are pre-ordered and never see the showroom, so it's hard to catch one. Even if you want to buy new, you might check around for a used one, on CL or something, just to try it out. You really should try one out...

    2/3 fingers "stick"

Similar to what you're experiencing, when I first started, my pinky followed my third finger around like a lost puppy. It took a couple of years to get my pinky fully functional, and many more years for it to become as adept as the other three. This is something that takes time, and you...

    Used Bass on a Budget

$300 can usually get you a used MIM Jazz, too. Not to take away from the Squier VM and CV. Those are quite nice, too.

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Eleven

The bridge just kind of stands up on the height adjust screws, and it can rock a little, head to tail. On mine, I push it to the tail side of the slot. On mine, it stays put, there, real nice. This also provides a set reference point when changing strings, in case you change them all at once. I...

Why do bassists tend to be heftier fellows?

Built for comfort... ain't built for speed!

Where Did You Buy Your First Bass?

I got my first bass, a Fender USA Bullet Deluxe, in 1982, from Hogan's House of Music, in Lawndale, California. It was a mom-n-pop, that had been around for decades. Nice little shop. Nice selection. Knowledgeable sales people. A short time later, Guitar Center opened a store directly across the...

Atrocious National Anthem. That bassist tho.

The Star Spangled Banner is a symbol of our nation, and revered to the point of being almost sacred. Because of that, anything other than the traditional arrangement is ALWAYS going to bother people. I say leave it alone. It's fine as-is. Save your creativity for other stuff, and just play the...

Putting a short scale neck on a MIA J or P

How about one of the Mustangs with the original style pickups? If the stock pickups don't do it for you, I've read that the Nordstrands will get you real close.

    wildest bass i ever seen!

But, where would you ever play it? The Star Wars Cantina?

    This seem fishy?

Yep, sounds like a scam. Although they usually want to pay by cashiers check, and "can't come by, personally, because they are currently out of town on business." Another good indicator is when you put something up, late at night, and get a response within minutes. Most people with legit...
