    I’ve gone Fenderless

I own a parts bass with a P bass body and a J bass neck. I've had it for 12 years now which is the record for how long I've kept any guitar related instrument ever. As per Fender: the concept is sound but the execution is lame IMHO. It's too bad 'cause you know they could do better, especially...

    Musicmaster Bass Project!

I’m pretty sure he’s using a Jazzmaster p/u which is what your p/u looks like as well…

Rounds are Too Bright, and Flats are Too Dull...

Have you let the Pressurewounds break in? Have you tried rolling the tone knob down? It’s much easier to make strings less “zingy” than it is to add brightness. YMMV…

Have you ever tried/bought something just because of the artist(s) that use it?

I have EMG GZR-P pickups in my bass but it has nothing to do with any geezers using them. ;) FWIW - They’re only piece of kit that I’ve bought where I knew they’d always be the one variable that wouldn’t change.

    Third Pickup in Jazz Bass

Pretty close to the neck but not right at the base of it. Why not see if you can figure out the best placement to your ears? Find a way to run them to a cable that’s hooked up to an amp and hold them over the strings and see if you can discern any audible preference. FWIW-every time I see...

    Third Pickup in Jazz Bass

Best low end sound I ever heard from a Jazz bass was one with P pickup in the neck position. It didn’t hurt that it was played thru a Macintosh power amp & a Bag End cabinet either. The sound was low, clear & rattled teeth…;)

    NBD (P-Bass Body/J-Bass Neck)

I have an Allparts P body with a Warmoth J neck - also with pao ferro. I chose Warmoth so I could get the smallest frets possible ala Lee Sklar. I also have EMG GZR-P pickups in it. Not sure why you’re having noise issues as mine has no schielding and it works just fine. Maybe check the wiring...

What's this? (Unusual P bass by Fender)

Seems like Sanderg was using a similar design concept for their 35 year anniversary as well. Actually, I knew someone that put a P pickup in that same position on his J bass and it sounded monstrous - in a good way. ;)

Were you born a bass player or was it decided for you?

Seeing as how I came into the world the same time as the P bass I’d say I was born to be a bass player. And, yes, I play a P bass.

    Active pickups too....clean, I guess?

EMG GEEZER PJ set might solve your problem + they don’t use a battery.
