i was thinking about doing the exact same thing with the exact same bass haha. my question was would i need to wire another battery to the dc's, or change the preamp out, or would the single 9-volt and preamp work with the active (versus passive) pickups?

yeah, just get the regular svt classic 4x10's with no tweeter. thats basically all the the 8x10 is, the each set of 4 10s in the cab are built into separate chambers, shouldn't notice any difference in tone, except maybe a little extra midrange
