I checked out the circle K strings and they sound amazing...the only problem is that I don't think they cater to through body stringing :(...I might try em on my other bass tho

Yeah I usually use Ernie Ball hybrids or medium guage but I'll definitely look into the Circle K strings

Squire Deluxe J bass V Active. These things eat up many basses that are way more expensive and its just under 400 online. You really can't beat it unless your a name brand snob :p

cut highs back on the bass itself and maybe if you have to on the amp. Bump up mids and depending on the room bump lows. In most rooms though cut lows back a tad. And play closer to the neck or on the neck pickup. Honestly though I just use an effect pedal :p.

@Tmoney865 yeah the Smith is actually the Ken Smith Design series which wouldn't be Ken Smith making it directly but a factory build based off his design if I am not mistaken. I found one for under a grand I think I might go with it. I am just trying to weigh my options.

I've noticed that the best ways that I have boosted the signal in recording bass is to run out of an amp head into the mixing board or audio interface. I use my SWR Amp red head and can run a line out to the board from the effects send, the xlr send or an unbalanced out. They all work. Also...

Yeah I agree fully I don't get why finding good drummers has been such a hard thing for me and my band. The funny thing is that "finding" a drummer is never the problem, its always been finding a "good musical" drummer that has been the problem.
