What stupid and unjustifable hill would you die on?

    It's a bass drum....not a "kick" drum......

Would you buy one of these ????

If this guy plays too aggressive he'll hit the ESC button and disappear from the bandstand.......

anyone else tired of serving the song?

99% of gigs = serving the song. 1% = bedroom wanna-be rock stars that will never be heard outside their door.....

What was your first bass amp and how bad was it?

Sunn 2x15 cabs - best sounding cabs, in my opinion......but yeah, the schlepping.....oi.........

What was your first bass amp and how bad was it?

Wow...had the Lafayette amp that Cosmic Ray pictured.....I think it was their attempt at the Ampeg B-15, less flip top. They were actually made by Univox; Lafayette electronics was a Radio Shack-like store in the NY metro area that sold a lot of stereo components - had a catalog with all this...

How many basses does a pro need?

    1) Fender Precision with roundwounds, (traditional sound) 2) Fender Jazz with roundwounds (modern sound) 3) Fender Precision with flatwounds. Anything else is just fluff.

Ouch...bass player called out on stage for being out of tune.

How about "Introducing our lead singer who can't sing a blessed note in tune..." This is pitiful. I advise her to check out Queen's performance at Live Aid '85....Freddy Mercury makes this girl sound like a squealing cat on a Saturday night. Mercury sang IN TUNE the entire performance. Singers...

Intentional irony: A good bassist on an inexpensive bass

Remember Gents....a certain guy from Liverpool showed up at gigs and played a certain bass in the studio to create some of the most iconic music ever created.......if it sounds good, it is good. I've seen guys with basses that look like they've been dragged around a city street and they sounded...

What's the Best rig you've played through?

Ampeg SVP preamp with Carvin 2000 power amp through 2-15". Also have another cab with 2x12" just in case. I know it's old school, but I've played big venues where I didn't need to go direct to the PA. Gimme those old Sunn 2x15 cabs any day !!!

Gene Simmons [still] Thinks Rock Is Dead

Gene Simmons is a businessman......plain and simple. If you want to learn how to play bass, you don't listen to and try to cop, his basslines. If you want to make it in the music business, hard as it may be in this day and age, he could give you great advice. But you don't listen to Kiss records...

Controversial Opinion: Gibson Basses Questionable Design Choices

Yes - always wondered why Gibson didn't take the time to design a bass that could compete sonically with the Fenders. The string length is a big factor. The shorter the string the less high harmonics come through, that's partly why Fenders have a more balanced sound. Couple the short string with...

Bass Players are Their Own Worst Enemy!

To reply to deadshovelhead....can't agree more. I have always thought the bigger amps and cabs sounded much better than the newer lighter stuff. I have an Ampeg SVT preamp in a rack with a Carvin 2000S head. Is it heavy ? Yes. Plus, I have 2 - 15" cabs and a 2x12" cab. I don't use all the cabs...

    Jazz soloing technique

Actually Keith, it helps to know scales, chords, and how they are related via theory and harmony . It's a lifelong journey - I've been playing for over 50 years and I'm still learning new things when it comes to jazz improv. Listen to bass players like Scott LaFaro, Ray Brown, Eddie Gomez just...
