I still think having at least most of the songs in one TUNING is a good idea, having most in one KEY is not a good idea. That's all I was trying to say to my guitarist, he was probably mixing up the words key and tuning like half the guys on this thread

I know what you mean, I see two or even sometimes three guys playing the same riff and it seems so pointless to me, what is the point of that anyway?

+1 I almost always play with a pick, but that doesn't mean can't go fingerstyle if need be. I'd say it'd be good for you to learn both regardless, broaden your expertise a little
