Great advice, thanks! Your top down vs.bottom up comment makes a lot of sense. Because it seems like a lot of guitar players are reaching for something higher while the bass often is coming down to resolve on the root note. Interesting!

You're probably right : ) don't mean to discredit bass any. As a guitar player I know how important good bass is to the entire sound of the band. I'm just thinking if you had to trade places with Jimi Hendrix or Noel Redding in the Experience which would choose?
