    Question for Rick 4003 owners

Neck on my 2002 4003 is like a table leg, felt huge at the headstock end when I first got it. ..and yes my neck pickup kills some harmonics, and even those that it does pick up; you hear them louder by soloing the bridge.

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Nine

As huge a Geddy Fan as I am, I think he says that becasue he has gone deaf with all the gigging he's done in the last 40 years  :hiding:

    Ric tone from Spector

Rics sound like they do for a million reasons, but the biggest single thing is pickup placement. The bridge pickup is lower than a p bass position and higher than a jazz bass bridge pickup. The neck pickup is way higher than on 99% of all bases. Any bass with humbuckers will struggle to...

    special Rickenbacker pain

um, get a 4001s or a reissue 4001v63 or 4001 c64 with no binding, I'm sure they have a contour on the front edge.

what is the worst bass you have ever played/heard?

Totally worth it, you and her just need more practice kissing :D

    Your bass, your sound... why?

I got a Ric after years of dreaming, it was a big deal for me, it's worth more than my car I love the sound, nothing else can touch it. The 'thud' of the neck pickup; which is a rarely heard sound - manufactures seem obsessed with p/j combinations And the dry "clanky" sound of the bridge...

NFLBD: New fretless bass day - Epi EB-1

Difficult not to laugh at the picture of an f-hole :p Looks cool though, unique sound I'll bet.

    Geddy's best sound?

Difficult question. He has a great tone on fly by night, bet nobody else mentions this. I assume it's the Ric, but it's not as bright or distorted as let's say hemispheres which is a great tone in its own right. The tone of fly by night is certainly deeper. Everything on moving pictures...

    sound or comfort

Sound, but in this instance neither. If it makes your hand hurt who cares what it sounds like. If it was. Merely the fact that the other bass felt "better" that would be another matter. Plus, I dunno as Jesus was such a good bassist anyway, overrated.

    5 Favorite Bassists?

Geddy Lee Chris squire Roger waters (yes I know all the arguments about how he sucked and gilmour doing all the studio work, but go and watch live at Pompeii and tell me the bass isn't cool) Any bass player who ever played on a Kate bush track Paul McCartney

Is it an upgrade and is it worth it buying a squier vintage modified jazz bass

Warning; 99.9% of everyone will tell you these basses are great. but I had one, and it was a right turkey. Play *the one your gonna buy* first.

How to make a fender jazz to sound like a rickenbacker...

Sound like Geddy Lee on a jazz, Easy- play into an sansamp DI, or if you have the money a real SVT. Sound like a Rickenbacker on a jazz, impossible- Geddy himself can't do that. Sorry. I never understood those who says he sounds the same on both basses:hmm: Totally different.

My Squier VM P bass blows away my Ric 4003

No it doesn't Some people prefer one, other people will prefer the other. Totally different tone, add to that, there is no cheap far east Ric so comparing the price is meaningless. :hiding:

Is the Rickenbacker pickup cover really that bad?

I bought my Ric used, the previous oner had taken the cover off. I put it back on because I wanted it to look stock. I play exclusively finger-style - never ever had a problem. I play mostly in front of the cover (i.e. nearer the neck)

Tried to love a P but I just cant!!

I don't understand this "tried to love" thing. Isn't it like me saying theres this really ugly girl next door and she has a horrible personality, but i'm *trying* to fall in love with her. WHY? Horses for courses. Play whatever you want
