Is it OK to run my D-800+ unloaded (without a cab)? I'd like to use the XLR DI to go straight to the board for in-ear gigs, and want to use the tone-shaping and eq on the head (send POST eq).

Nothing in the effects loop. Just a bass plugged straight in. Cab is a Bergantino AE410. The volume output of the MarkBass F500 still seems 2X that of the D-800+. Weird. I would have thought the D-800+ would blow it away. I've gotta be doing something wrong.

It's a Sadowsky JJ 5 string. Output from the pickups is quite hot actually. ;) When I turn the gain up and master down, I get overdriven tones (and limiter light comes on), so I probably won't be able to go past 3 o'clock on the gain (probably more like 2 o'clock) and stay clean. I guess at...

Yeah... I'm trying to factor that into my A/B testing. It's tough because at half volume on the MarkBass F500 (gain 12 o'clock, master 12 o'clock) it's super loud and as loud as I'd probably ever get on a gig. To duplicate the volume on the D-800+, I'm at gain 12 o'clock, master 3 o'clock (at...

Just received my D-800+, plugged it in to my Bergantino AE410, and was surprised at the low-ish volume output. It doesn't seem to get anywhere near as loud as my MarkBass F500. Has anyone else experienced this?

Help me decide my band's name.

Meth Teeth (pronounced phonetically as "Meph Teef") No one better take this. It's def going to be my next stoner / prog / funk project name.

Having trouble getting that growly P bass tone

You won't get the growly tone you're looking for with just a bass (regardless of pickups or strings used). You need some type of overdrive (not distortion, not fuzz) to get the sound your looking for. There's no other way ... In the clip you posted of Geddy, he uses a rackmount RPM (among...

Having trouble getting that growly P bass tone

All of those tones you like are overdriven. That's the "growl" you're hearing. Go get yourself one of these:

Starting a New Country side project.... but I know nothing about New Country..... Help!!!!

Another +1 for Outlaw Country like Family Tradition, Fulsom Prison Blues, these always go over well. Girls seem to love anything Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton. So if your doing covers you'll want to overload on these. Country Girl (Shake it) goes over well if you have a front man...

Got fired from two bands, help a brother improve his groove!

It's not your playing. You're getting dumped because of how you look on stage, Or due to your personality. That's OK though. You can improve both of these as long as you recognize them as a problem. Are you a big dude? overweight? Dress weird? Feel uncomfortble socially with the band...

Will this replace the Tip Jar?

You need to visit / play Nashville. ;)

Will this replace the Tip Jar?

The tips wouldn't have to go to the band. The band would get paid a set amount, but the bar owner would keep the "tips" to offset the cost of the band. This would keep everyone honest. Such a simple idea. I'd love to see it happen.

Are Rickenbacker's worth the price tag?

Please don't buy a Ric. I don't want everyone to own one. ;) It's the only bass that ppl come up and ask me about after a show. It's a conversation piece, but it also sings in a mix. For me, play with a hint of overdrive and a heavy attack and the bass has no equal.
