In which order would you plug this pedal collection?

K - E - B - I - A - H - F - D - C Tuner first so it get's a clean signal. Filters next because they work better with a full clean signal. Compressor to even out your sound before it hits the rest of the fx. Expander after compression is the norm. Overdrive/distortion/fuzz, normally before any...

compressor vs. limiter-which one and why?

A compressor reduces the high peaks, a limiter increases the low peaks. They are used together in audio mixing/mastering. The compressor to even out the high peaks, post or pre-EQ. The limiter, put last in the chain, used to maximize the overall impression of loudness by decreasing the...

My studio rig... Don't laugh at my homemade racks, well you can if you want, I just can't see spending 100+ for a rack. TOA EQ - MB Compressore - Sansamp Para Driver - VL Giggitty - Steinberg CI2 - Comp/Win 7 x64/Cubase 7 - dbx EQ - dbx comp - TOA mixer - BD DT-770/AT ATH-M50/MAudio...

    Steinberg CI-1 Quandries

I would recommend turning windows audio off, and just have the one audio device. You should see the CI-1 in 'Sound', control panel/sound. Set the CI-1 as the default recording and playback device. You should have installed an app with the CI-1, 'ysub_cp', with that you can change the buffer...

    Favorite compression pedal?

Another vote for MarkBass Compressore. You can't get a better pedal compressor imo. I run a TOA EQ - Compressore - Sansamp - Giggity - MarkBass Studio 2 amp sim, and there is NO noise.

    new nut?

You could always buy a Graphtech nut and see if it fits? http://www.amazon.com/Graphtech-Black-Tusq-4-Str-PT-1200-00/dp/B000YF2FGS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1377633739&sr=8-2&keywords=bass+nut I did that with an old guitar, the nut was slightly wider than the original but it's is no big deal.

what is exactly is a di?

DI = Direct Injection, or sometimes called 'direct input'. It means plugging into a recording device without being mic'd up, usually using a DI box to make unbalanced input balanced (mixer inputs are balanced). You can DI an amp, some have outputs for that that don't need the DI box. Bass...

Vintage Old Fender - I don't get it.

Sorry but that is just my experience. Why do you think jazz players prefer heavier strings? Why would anyone, Stevie Ray Vaun, bother with 13's, if 9's sounded better? Why does Peter Buck use 13's on his Rics? Try a set of strings with a wound 3rd for even better tone, but you'll probably...
