    This, 100%. The most appreciable feature of Sire’s preamp is the always-on passive tone control. About preamps with different curves for boosting and cutting, many Bartolini have this logic. IIRC the preamps with switchable mid frequency change only the boost curve and not the cut.

    I have a Squier VM Jazzmaster Baritone with 30” scale. It’s just amazing, the neck is bass-size (and quite beefy at that) and the sound is havenly - both clean and distorted.

    Basses under $1000 that put $2000+ basses to shame?

    With 1000 EUR I can: - buy a Cort Artisan B4 (~450) - change the plastic nut with a tusk one (10) - get a CNC fretwork + general setup from Thomann (200) Now I have a 660 EUR bass. Hard to find something better at 2000 but for aesthetics, as the Cort body wood can have a good or less good vein...
