Anyone else play long scale / baritone guitars?

I know this is a bass site but I need some help. I'm not really comfortable wandering into the murk of guitar forums Rondo seems to have dropped Agile and Douglas and those were largely the brands I was familiar with. Also, they don't have anything in stock.

Guitarfetish also doesn't carry long scale. Bummer.

I don't play standard sized guitars (24.75-25" scale), just too small and physically uncomfortable. I'm 6'6", too many years of bass muscle memory, etc. Anywho..

I need a second 27" scale (28 would be fine) 6 string (no 7 strings). Any recommendations? Cheaper is better, but like all things in life, not interested in buying junk.

Did some casual surfing on Guitarcenter/MF/Sweet and damn I can't find a thing. Bass, I'm all over it, but guitar is just too foreign for me.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a used Douglas Hadron 627, but I figured I'd check in first. Suggestions?

I have a Gretsch baritone at 30 inches scales, ans I love it (I tuned mine as a bass VI, but it can also used as a A-A or B-B baritone, it came with A-A strings that I changed right away).

I have an Ovation acoustic long scale.

I really like it, but of course, one should probably like acoustics, and Ovations, if this guitar is to be considered.

ooo. I could dig the Ovation! I have a Danelectro Bari in Limo Black from the 90's. Busted it out yesterday and lost a few hours.

I have a Squier VM Jazzmaster Baritone with 30” scale. It’s just amazing, the neck is bass-size (and quite beefy at that) and the sound is havenly - both clean and distorted.

Last fall I got this Alvarez ABT60E baritone. The electronics are LR Baggs. I really like the sound (unplugged) and there are some songs that sound really good in the lower register. On other songs I still prefer the standard guitar. My only complaint is that when jamming with other guitar players, I have to transpose. Plugged in it sounds great, I just don’t plug it in much.

How well does the Alvarez setup ? What guage strings are you running on it... that looks fun to me! Something I could maybe take the plunge on ...

I have a Kronbauer 28.6" scale maple jumbo tuned B-b or sometimes dropped A. I'm using the Elixir baritone strings with good results. Had been using D'Addario EXP baritone strings, which were a tad dull.

How well does the Alvarez setup ? What guage strings are you running on it... that looks fun to me! Something I could maybe take the plunge on ...

I don’t know what strings are on it, whatever they use at the factory. I ordered it from GC last fall when it was on sale. The setup was actually very good right from the factory, and it came with a handwritten note from the tech. It’s tuned B-E-A-D-G-F#-B. The LR Baggs has a built in tuner. I’ll post some more pics.

Here’s more pics. One thing about it, the fret wire is small. Smaller than my standard acoustic guitar. It plays great, I’m just pointing it out. You can see it in the headstock photo.

The other thing about bari is, if you play to accompany your singing, it’s definitely in a lower register. It’s a fifth below standard guitar, so if you play a D chord, its actually a G chord on the bari. Of course you can always capo to get into other keys.

Cool. I already play Baritone electric 90's Dano with big honkin strings and an acoustic might be just the thing! I keep making noise about playing some guitar when we do our trio 'unplugged' schtick. The Alvarez might just fit that vibe.

The Dano through my Fender Deluxe Reverb or Vox AC-15 TB is really cool.

I think Ibanez also makes an acoustic bari.

I haven’t found a case for mine yet. Someone told me a grand auditorium or a jumbo case would work, but I want to test fit it first.

I'm probably an outsider here, but I have a 6-string JB Player Artist bass, 34" scale, strung piccolo B-b with a plain .016 on top. Guitar tuning with a major third between strings 2 and 3.

So, B1-B3? The .016 string should have a tension of 18.8 kg, do you have any issue with breakages?
