Yeah I guess it's the same as a pulser although it does not say pulser but PB400RA on the headstock, but yeah in both cases it's just a P-bass by Yamaha.

Yeah I will try the tap test. The problem is I only go to the rehearsal room once a week (it's in a different part of the city) and there's lots to do every time I'm there as were busy getting ready for recording. Again, the problem was there with the stock not-messed-with pickup already...

Honestly I'm starting to think if it's not something to do with the wiring of the building. I remembered that once I could also hear the vocals of another band from the room next door coming from my amp. Still a question why guitar player doesn't get it.

It seems like a lot of the people answering in this thread don't read the previous posts. I'll say it again for the ones that have missed it - it is nothing to do with whatever recording setup we're using as it happens while not recording too. I have the amp on, delay on, volume pot on...

No. But it gets a bit better. Basically different bass = my bass without pickguard.

After another session with the band today I still think that removing the pickguard made a difference but even without it the problem is still very prominent, as in probably would get in the way of recording.

So after a series of fun practical tests, I've managed to pin down what is causing the problem, at least to a large extent. It is, as one of you have anticipated, the lack of a sound engineer on site. ...jokes It's the pickguard.

I'd say fairly low probably? Hard to say I don't have much previous experience with swapping and setting pickups, it seemed like the screws that came with the lace pickup don't allow for much adjustment at all, it would be still loose and very soon after all the way down already. Please note...

Yes. Like I said several times now this is nothing to do with the recording process as it occures not only on recording but also just while playing.

In a gig situation you normally point away from the drums & backline so I imagine that would be fine. In a rehearsal / live recording session you're facing each other so that's substantially different. I never had any problems with unwanted feedback, squealing or abnormal buzzing or whatever...

And isn't fixing the problem always better than a workaround.

Yeah I could do, but since I've tried a second amp already whats the point of trying a third one really. It is nothing to do with the recording setup/process at all as the problem occures while not recording too.
