    Ampeg B-15nf blowing fuses

I went over to my buddy Twist’s to use his Variac and he had the light bulb limiting the current too so we brought it (the new power transformer) up really slowly and carefully . I did not see a flash in the rectifier tube.

    Ampeg B-15nf blowing fuses

OK it took me 2.5 years to do it but I ordered a new power transformer from the the guy that sells these and the new caps that he recommended. I installed everything and we are up and running again. I had to make the holes in the circuit board bigger with a drill bit because they did not line up...

    Ampeg B-15nf blowing fuses

It’s not the speaker because amp worked for a week with new speaker. Working on this amp is definitely a pain compared to pre circuit board Fenders. Clearly it’s engineered to look cool rather that be serviceable. It does not appear that the circuit board would need to come out to replace either...

    Ampeg B-15nf blowing fuses

It’s hard to have that definite knowledge at this point because the amp won’t power up so I can’t check voltages. If I want to measure resistance /capacitance with a meter I have to remove the element from the circuit and in the case of this > 20 year old electrolytic capacitor which is a pain...

    Ampeg B-15nf blowing fuses

Thanks. I got this amp 15 years ago for $200 from a Japanese musician who was selling everything before moving back and I know who he bought it from too. I brought it too my tech Joe at the time who has since moved to San Diego and he replaced the big blue electrytic cap and the plug with a 3...

Here is 40/40/40 MFD 500V cap. Does it look original Beans on Toast?

    Ampeg B-15nf blowing fuses

I will try the 3A fuse good point. I should replace the 50 year old electrolytic cap anyway if I want to keep the amp. Do you think I need to worry about discharging it before starting work given that it has been off for 5 days? I would think the current would find a way to leak out after 5 days :-)

    Ampeg B-15nf blowing fuses

It blows within 2 seconds with some 2A fuses I had around. When I used a 1A fuse for the pre amp tube removal test it was instant with no sound at all. I will check the wiring you described. Hopefully the fuse protected the $250 transformer !

    Ampeg B-15nf blowing fuses

so after replacing speaker in my 1966 Ampeg B-15nf and getting excited about it after 2 days of continuous playing 2.5A fuse blew. Replace 6L6s and again blew fuse. Replaced rectifier tube and again blew fuse. Removed pre amp tubes again blew fuse. Ordered new 40/40/40 MFD filter cap in can from...

    66 B15n with vibration on G

Duh problem solved...it was that vertical screw that secures the dolly to the cabinet that simply needed to be finger tightened. Thanks for all the help. I am not too familiar with these amps even though I’ve had this one for 12 years. The cabinet checklist was helpful because I had...

    66 B15n with vibration on G

Just put Eminance Beta 15A in my Ampeg 1966 B15-n and it vibrates and rattles when I play a G. I can damp out the vibration by placing my hand on the back of the cabinet and apply pressure but I am not sure what the permanent solution is. We play in G a lot so it would be nice to find a solution.
