    Double Bass Ampeg Portaflex PF-500

Thanks for the info. I am fine with the Ampeg sound. I play rockabilly, so there is a lot of clicking and seems to sound pretty good out of this amp.

How did the Ampeg work with your upright? I have it with a 1938 Kay, and am struggling with some rattles. Any advice on setup with an upright would be appreciated.

Double Bass Why doesn't just the house PA work for stand up bass?

I haven't gotten to that level yet...I think the first plan is to have your own stage amp, loose the bass in the monitors. Not sure about the setup changes.

NICE! I have a similar system (BOSE Compact) and never considered using it as the bass amp. Do you use any kind of filter? I would be using a Kay Bass -> dual pickups -> Fishman Pro -> Bose system. Do you rely on the speakers at the top of the stack?

Double Bass Why doesn't just the house PA work for stand up bass?

I have a Kay 1938, and I am trying to get an amp that will do just as you mention - be the bass and the drums for the band. I need the clicking to be loud, but not too loud. I am thinking that the compressor on my Fishman will help with that, along with a good amp. I have pickups on the...

I am now on the hunt for a good stage monitor...

Double Bass Why doesn't just the house PA work for stand up bass?

So, here is what I have so far: 1) For a live gig with ~150 people, do you always need a cabinet? Why doesn't the house PA work? Typically, yes you need a cabinet. House PA and engineers aren't as concerned about tone, so send them the best signal you can from your stage rig. 2) When you do...

That mic seems great! Any recommendation on a bass amp setup? We are playing places with less than 200 folks...

Double Bass Why doesn't just the house PA work for stand up bass?

GOT IT! Now the big question... What kind of amp for slapping and rockabilly? We don't have a drummer, so I tend to be as percussive as possible. I have a Kay 1938 with a bridge and fingerboard pickups. I would want an amp that can get the mid-range for the "clicks" but then capture the...

Double Bass Why doesn't just the house PA work for stand up bass?

Steve, I think I gave bad info, when I am talking about the house PA, I meant to say the house board. Sounds like the whole monitor is the issue. I will work on getting the monitor to work, or else run a bass cabinet on the stage.

Double Bass Why doesn't just the house PA work for stand up bass?

We play in a noisy environment, always amplified. My quest is to figure out if I can go straight into the house PA with the fishman DI and stop feedback, or should I have an on-stage amp as a monitor & source of bass for the audience. We play old Johnny Cash, Elvis, some slap bass originals...

Double Bass Why doesn't just the house PA work for stand up bass?

Thanks for the answer. So I think I could probably limit the feedback if I can get them to have or use a monitor behind or to the side (I think there is one on the side)... So that answers question #3, so what do you think about the other ones: 1) For a live gig with ~150 people, do you...

Double Bass Why doesn't just the house PA work for stand up bass?

The monitors are on the floor pointing up at us. The band that followed us, he has his cabinet right behind him, I thought for sure there would be feedback, but none... Still, I am wondering why?
