    am i getting ripped off?

There's only one way to find out!! It's a drag but you have to get it fixed either way. It won't be cheaper to buy another amp, right??

I don't know about paint burning, but, you need to have a pro look at it. Not plugging your speakers and having the amp on will damage your amp. Rule of thumb,...... if you notice an odor like something is burning shut the amp down and get it checked out!!

Could be anything really, you won't now until someone checks it out. I don't know if the warranty is tranferable like Mesa's, but, for Mesa you would need the original receipt. You might call Fender and find out what their warranty policy is.

    am i getting ripped off?

Transformers aren't cheap. That's assuming that's the main issue or part of the problem. Get someone that knows what they're doing and unless you've done this kind of repair before. Not worth getting zapped or worse. Here's a link to Mercury Magnetics http://www.mercurymagnetics.com/ You...

I've always had a bass around for recording regardless and for messing around. In my younger days I always wanted a Jazz Bass, just love em!!! Used an Ibanez Roadster II bass back then, which was a decent bass. Had my JB for about 7 years. And yes, I have been gripped by the Dark Side, but...

BassmanPaul and KJung, I can't thank you guys enough, and everyone else for that matter, for sharing your knowledge and experience to a TalkBass newcomber like you guys have. The funny thing is I'm usually the guy people call for help and suggestions on guitars and amps, so me being the guy...

    VENTING!!!!

I'd just find a power cord and be done with it. Not worth sweating over especially with a gig coming up in a few days.

Thank you again Paul. Right now I'm looking on the Carvin web site. I really don't want to use my Showman for gigs just due to what it is and its age, even though the amp works perfectly. What's your opinion on this setup? Link Removed I really do appreciate your time given and advice...

Why are old tubes better than new ones?

Now that you mention it I have. But it's still amazing that something like that was basically just a calculator. And I'm glad that they made them a bit smaller too,.... I don't have to carry one on an airplane!! :D

Why are old tubes better than new ones?

Spot on, the military needed very high quality components to operate radios, ect. in the field and they had to be durable and take a lot abuse. Stereos and TV's back then were all tube driven. Not to mention computers, like at NASA, the one's the size of a warehouse used tubes. Personally I...

Thanx for your welcome, it's nice to be here. And yes, your right, the tranny is rated @4 ohms, I just descibed it incorrectly. I should have said that it can handle 8 ohms or a 2 to 1 impedance mismatch safely. Speakers is what I need to get info on and the right cabs as well. I've always...
