Like others, I could and have gotten by with zero. If I must use a board, then I’d do Pitch Black tuner > Cali Bass comp > VT preamp / DI.

Anything with a HPF would be a help here. Using the HPF on my Cali compressor allows me to get my lows set just right with my BD800. I can’t say I have boom issues with my D800, but it is helpful with my other amp.

My Ultra II Jazz is fantastic. IMO, an Ultra J makes more sense than an Ultra P.
