Would you be offended if a band asked you to play a P bass?

Silly question. It obviously depends if you want to be a hired gun or present yourself as an artist with a unique voice or certain professional standards. Totally different situations.

SOLD Squier Vintage Modified Jazz '77 Amber. Perfect!

I have a 70's vintage modified that is the best jazz sound ever, and i've owned about a dozen or so, including pre cbs. Its the blonde bass with ugly painted on black blocks on the neck. It has the duncan pups i think or the fender designed that they recently switched to. This looks way better...

Am I an "incompetent" bass player?

I once heard that when Jaco was starting out in Miami some people thought he sucked. Anyone know more about this? I feel I am so overbearing and ambitious in my playing I can't pocket properly. Often the best guys are the ones who don't overthink and can relax and let it all happen. That is the...

Fender Historians - What Makes Old Fenders Special?

I think that fender and a lot of manufacturers have deconstructed the pre cbs sound and know how to make them consistently so the vintage thing is essentially over. I've got a fender modified that I bought for 150.00 that is just amazing and schecter diamond j's that are wonderful. Fender really...

Does Schecter Diamond J Bass with bigger magnets give more low end?

I bought a couple (I made one fretless) of Diamond J's really cheap (400) before they stopped making them and I really like them. I think the bigger poles in the pups sort of fix the jazz problem of not having a bottom end that isn't solid enough- the kind of bottom that you can feel hit you...

My experiences with the new (and old) Stingrays

I have a 87 stingray,a 93 sterling and cheap sub sterling with a second neck pu added. The sterling is original and is amazing though more of a light jazz sound. the 87 and sub are both switched out with seymore duncam bassline alnicos and preamp. This gives them unbelievable bottom and a high...

    Keeping roundwounds clean and fresh.

Buy an unused paint can and pure denatured alcohol from a hardware store and soak overnight. Bright as new.
