I used two, Schroeder PL115's with the Subway. No complaints.

I used to do this at casino gigs where I had to do the iem thing. I brought a small, 112 cab, and bass amp, like the Subway 350, with me and put it on a stand behind me. I used one earplug for the mix and left the other out so I could hear the cab. The drummer really appreciated this as he also...

Although I've never used them on a Jazz, I really like GHS Precision Flats on my P. Not sticky, no breaking in, sound good right out of the box. I would also consider a mute if you are going more for thump. I use the original Fender, under the bridge cover mute, ala James Jamerson.

K&K used to make a belt pre. It only has Volume,Bass and Treble, but it had a belt hook on it. I recall it had a lot of gain. It was called The Power Pack.
