Best Value in the $800-$1,000 Range

I just bought a Reverend Mercalli from Sam Ash. $988 on sale. Very nice bass.

    NBD! Extremely special Peavey T-40!

Looks minty! I've owned a couple of them over the years. The first one I bought brand new when they first came out in 1978. I paid $280 brand new with the HS case. Since the lockdown last year, the prices on them are nuts. They sold for years used everywhere in the $500-$600 range. I messaged...

Are your cab and amp the same brand?

Now I'm matched, but I don't necessarily believe it has to be. I have an Ampeg PF-800 running through either 1 or 2 PF115LF cabs depending on the stage size. In the past I've used Fender Bassman cabs for years regardless of the head. And once tried a 4x10 Eden cab which was definitely not my...

Distortion from my Warwick Rockbass Corvette$$

I bought my first Warwick bass this week. I've been a Fender or Fender style bass person my whole life. UPS dropped it, I played if for a few minutes, then threw it on the bench for a good setup. It plays great. There's one problem....I can't seem to figure out why the bass distorts in the lower...

How many basses does a pro need?

I own 7, but really only play consistently 3 of them. For shows I take a passive bass like a Jazz bass or PJ for our more rock sets, and an active bass like my Warwick or a soapbar pickup bass like my Schecter Stiletto when I need a bigger bottom end boost for ballads.

    Where the sound come from?

I agree. I just this week re-did my Sterling Sub Series bass with a new pickup and electronics. I installed an Aguilar AG-4M pickup and a John East MMSR 2-Band Preamp. Both were exact fit replacements. It's like night and day. You wouldn't even guess it was the same bass the way it sounds now...

Epiphone Embassy vs G&L Tribute jb-2

I've owned both although I haven't tried one of the new 34" scale Embassy basses. Mine was the short scale version they built a few of years ago. I hated it. Maybe I'm just not a short scale player. It was well made, nice finish. The tuners were absolute junk. I tried to get warranty service...

This is what I get for ordering strings from Amazon Warehouse...

I just ordered 3 sets of Warwick red label nickle strings from Thomann in Germany. I had been buying them from the Warwick-Framus/USA parts site in Nashville but they've been out for awhile. Good price so I thought, about $19.50/set. Start hunting. They only place I found any was on ebay for...

Sweet spot for used bass prices

Right now I don't think anyone can have expectations of any kind on what to pay for a used bass. Since the pandemic and lock downs, used prices are just stupid high. Example: 3 years ago I sold a Peavey T-40 I had bought new in 1978 when they first came out. Decent playing and sounding bass...

    Used bass condition disclosure

They do, but if the seller isn't cooperative it takes a while. In this case almost a month.

    Used bass condition disclosure

I've become very leary about buying used. I will from brick & mortar retailers I trust. Even Guitar Center has over classified on condition twice. I bought an Ibanez 5 string that had 2 bridge screws snapped off classified as excellent. And a Schecter Elite that the finish by the jack and on the...

How many Basses do you Return per Year?

As many as necessary. Buying something as personal as a bass or a guitar without playing it first is why most of the major music stores have such liberal return policies. Just because it had a nice picture and the specs look good on paper doesn't mean it's right for you. I've sent back $1500...

Whats your biggest beef about your musical peers?

I agree with you 100%. For me it's worse. The guys I play with too have no concept of playing what people enjoy listening to vs what they like and want to play. We'll all talk about it, they agree and within a couple of weeks are coming up with another 45 year old song. To make it worse, it's...

    Guitar Center Chapter 11 Imminent

Their online sales are fine. It's the brick and mortar stores that are failing and have been for a few years now. They'll restructure closing most, if not all of the stores around the country and become an online retailer. I hate their stores anyway. They open everything. Throw away all the...

Guitar Center Filed for Bankruptcy today

I didn't buy much from them but they kept the other retailers honest. Any thought??
