I'm not exactly a fan of active preamps/pickups, so I would highly recommend the Seymour Duncan SSB-4. If you want a deep, heavy sound, their quarter pounder jazz pickups are excellent as well if you want to pair the two up. Just my thoughts.

Now, i'm a fan of passive, so heres my suggestion I'd say put a seymour duncan quarter pounder jazz in the bridge pickup position, a seymour duncan hot jazz in the neck position. This is the most aggressive/growly thing i can think of for jazz pickups good luck

ja a single coil Pbass pickup in the bridge, or closer to it, is my goal. i had thought of the jazz but its just not the sound i'm looking for. So i've heard you basically need a custom made PU if you want a single coil in the bridge

Hmm I would love to test one out in the bridge but I don't want to order two of the telebass pickups and find out that it sucks as a bridge pickup since funds are limited. I've seen the split pbass pickups in bridge position before, but in this case I'm talking about the single coil telebass...

id assume that double basses are finished with the same stuff they use on violins, havent done that much research as the idea just came to me. They seem to run at about 500 for a cheap, unfinished bass but it slightly scares me that the site itself says that practically the whole bass needs...

aha thanks, im new (duh) having just read the 'please read' threads thought id post. nothing about not calling a bass an upright :P hmm so if i do the finishing myself it could actually be better than a cheap factory bass..
