Yes, I’d preserve the neck, if possible. There really is no questioning this, imo. The neck would need to be beyond repair for me to replace it. I wouldn’t throw it out, regardless. Necks make great wall ornaments.

What is the “series link”? That addition is really what is throwing me off. Everything else you’ve said makes sense, but these diagrams include connections that I’m not seeing in wires from the pickup, and so clarification on that would be appreciated.
