P Bass Rubber mute-above the strings or below

That seems like what I've been looking for. What kind of foam is that? It appears softer and more porous than insulation foam. More like a photo I have the foam mounted under the bridge cover. Thanks!

    So...Who Enjoys A Bass Solo?

Bass solos are effective in inverse proportion to the frequency of their occurrence.

    Max Bennett

Max Bennett is one of my all-time favorite bassists. I admire the talent that can not only change styles as the music changes but create masterpieces with every change. Verdi, Stravinsky, Miles Davis, Dylan there are others but not many. Max Bennett did/is doing?, this.

The "Don't Fire Your Drummer" Thread

When you relocate and work your way into the scene you may suffer not-good drummers for a while. I've done this twice. I know I've "made it" in a new region when I'm consistently playing with the best drummers. To me the best drummers: have the smallest kits and know how to get multiple sounds...

Replacing an 8-ohm spkr. with a 4-ohm skpr.?

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to respond to this! I've decided to add a second 8-ohm cabinet from BagEnd. If I'm still unhappy, look for another amp I guess. I've got to decide how to describe the sound I want, but a matching 8-ohm skpr/cab is the best idea for now.

Replacing an 8-ohm spkr. with a 4-ohm skpr.?

I'm using a Walter Woods. An old one, 1988. Roughly rated at 100 (+) watts - 8ohms. I've read reviews that thought it was actually more. Bag End told me about a replacement speaker they will have available soon. Otherwise nothing specific. I'm looking at Eminence 15".

Replacing an 8-ohm spkr. with a 4-ohm skpr.?

ArrGh! You lost me in there and it seems to be good information!! The cabinet has a port in back. Could you spell out for me: spl, winisd, TSPs ? Thanks.

Replacing an 8-ohm spkr. with a 4-ohm skpr.?

Thanks...I'm glad this stirred up some interest. I called BagEnd and they will have one soon. I can't find the details, thought I took notes on it but...

Replacing an 8-ohm spkr. with a 4-ohm skpr.?

Is it possible to replace an 8-ohm bass speaker with a 4-ohm in the same cabinet. It's a 15" Bag End bass cabinet? It's not a D series speaker/cabinet. I've asked Bag End and they're very good at responding. I thought of asking TalkBass too. Maybe someone out there has done this and could tell...

Ste-up on a Fender Precision with LaBella flatwounds: 52-110

Thanks and thanks to everyone who has responded. I tried a different set of flats and really didn't like them. So I took them off and put an old set of the LaBellas back on. The intonation problem has been worse at times. Despite evidence to the contrary on this thread, this web page, I don't...

Ste-up on a Fender Precision with LaBella flatwounds: 52-110

This is good news. I will try it again with a new set of strings. Thanks I'm not experienced in set-ups on my own bass but I really hope it'll work according to Hoyle. Or Fender. I've printed out their set-up recommendations. I don't think I'll try it myself but at least I'm better informed...

    Flatwound Club

5 th's? Do you play cello? I'm a Red Mitchell. I love how he adapted to 5th's. He said it opened up the sound of his bass. I wonder if it would have the same effect on a bass guitar. Let me know!

    Flatwound Club

I'll take 4378 if it's available. For myself, my '64 Precision L-series and LaBella 1954's. I've had the bass since 1977, 39 years. Much longer than any female has stayed with me. Except for my cat. She stayed around for 19 years. A perfect relationship. Although she was rather strong-willed...

    Yes, this is ridiculous.....

Perhaps a Volume Proliferation Treaty is necessary (!).

Ste-up on a Fender Precision with LaBella flatwounds: 52-110

My bass is a 1964 Fender Precision. I've had it 39 years and though it's not mint it's a beauty. I really like the sound and feel of LaBella medium gauge flatwounds but I'm having a difficult time getting the E string to play in tune up the neck. The barrel bridge is way back and I've shortened...
