ash or alder body? Skylines use ash for their body woods and fender uses alder. Not a huge sonic difference, but ash is a bit heavier.

+1 As far as I'm concerned, this is THE tube amp for live applications

I vote Jag, because textbook says it's the most versatile.. plus you are more comfortable with the other two, so if the jag doesn't work out and you're missing one, you'll know which of the two you should swap with it next trip home

To me a jazz is kind of the middle ground between the two... to get the most tones I'd probably get the P and throw a pre into the Jazz and make it a slapper (don't know if you slap). Some other things to consider are the woods used, but I don't think others consider woods as much as a game...

In defense of the previous models, I play an '07 jazz that plays and sounds excellent IMO, better than any of the 08 and later models I've picked up at GC. I really liked the "other" sound I got out of my jazz when I used it, problem was, the switch would stick. So the time I wanted parts to sound beefier turned into the rest of the song sounding beefier, not good. Like it's been said so many times already, good idea, crappy execution of that idea...

Personally, for that genre I prefer the pic tone. (Generally) Its got more drive, note-to-note consistency, is clearer and sits in the mix better. Although there's plenty of examples that support both sides. If you're really up in the air on which to use, why not run through a song twice next...

I like the quote someone once said: "A J is like a karate chop; quick and precise, while a P is like a punch in the face; full and hits you hard." I love my jazz to death, but it's no P. That's for sure.
