You can carry an old, cheap bass to a gig in the truck. But you can't get the groceries with a nice, new bass. Good call. :thumbsup:

A little update on the bass in case anyone is searching around and thinking about getting one of these… The necked has bowed a bit, leaving the strings kind of high off the fretboard. It just needs a turn of the truss rod, but that’s a minor pain, needing to remove the neck and all. Not sure...

Good to hear! Now that you’re in touch with the shop, I’m not sure what I would do. I am not really up on the pros and cons of neck through versus bolt on. I would think that a bolt on is easier to deal with down the road (set up, potential fixes, etc.). But that bass sure is a stunner...

I'd call and fess up. The price differential for a neck through is substantial. They may well tell you to just keep it. In which case your conscience is clear. If not, well, that's OK, too. But I will say that it is quite the gorgeous looking bass. It must play and sound sweet, too...

If I were looking for something a little different from the normal Fenders and MM's in a 5 string (and maybe I will some day)... I'd look at a Warwick fretless of some sort. Have not tried one yet. But I'd like to. Seems to be different enough from the usual to warrant a look.
