Darkglass Microtubes 900 vs Mesa Subway D800

Yes, this discussion is excellent. Thanks, guys. Can anyone speak to fan noise of one amp versus the other? For playing at home. Does either get into audible territory? The Gentler Magellan 800 is also on the contender list, with the Darkglass and D800+. Thanks.

I'm about to commit a TB sin.

You can carry an old, cheap bass to a gig in the truck. But you can't get the groceries with a nice, new bass. Good call.

    1965 Fender Bandmaster

Thanks for the warning. :) That cabinet is just for guitar. I only play bass through it with the volume below 2, until I get a proper bass cabinet. (And it does not sound great for bass.) I made it "convertible" in that there it can be open back or closed. See the photo, below. My...

    1965 Fender Bandmaster

I also have a ’65 Bandmaster! Just the head. I think that it’s great. For now I am only using it for my guitar (not bass). It sounds amazing. There is a lot of variation in tone from only the treble and bass knobs. It all sounds so smooth and rich. My favorite guitar sound in the world...

I just learned the importance of silence (from Interpol)

Cool. I have been listening to clips and think that Antics will be the first CD I buy. You replied with only an emoticon of a rodent. I don’t even know what that means. :) ;) Actually, it seems to be blocked here in the US now, too. Let’s see if I can post the same song but from a...

I just learned the importance of silence (from Interpol)

Cool! I bet their shows are great. Perhaps a wall of sound. I’ve got to get an album or two of theirs and dive a bit deeper into the music. I now understand why. I have become a fan. :) Oh come on. I was joking. Heck, part of my day job is in education. Did you not notice the winky...

A rest. Never heard that before. Thanks. You learn something new every day. It looks like I'm already done learning for today. ;)

I just learned the importance of silence (from Interpol)

Interesting perspective. Mine is the exact opposite. I have hobbies that I really like and put time into. Yet I never get to be that good. (My bass playing is weak due to lack of time spent on it so far, but I hope that will change.) By contrast, this guy doesn’t even like playing bass, yet...

I just learned the importance of silence (from Interpol)

I’m still very much a beginner at this bass thing. I was listening to this song, below, and the bass really struck me. He is playing something quite simple and then at about 20 second in, he skips notes. The silence… well, it sounds like a note. Maybe skipping the notes and having that...

NBD: Fender Japan Jazz Bass, Vintage Special, JB62 VSP 3TS (Long, many photos)

A little update on the bass in case anyone is searching around and thinking about getting one of these… The necked has bowed a bit, leaving the strings kind of high off the fretboard. It just needs a turn of the truss rod, but that’s a minor pain, needing to remove the neck and all. Not sure...

    NBD: When MusicMan screws up!

Good to hear! Now that you’re in touch with the shop, I’m not sure what I would do. I am not really up on the pros and cons of neck through versus bolt on. I would think that a bolt on is easier to deal with down the road (set up, potential fixes, etc.). But that bass sure is a stunner...

    NBD: When MusicMan screws up!

I'd call and fess up. The price differential for a neck through is substantial. They may well tell you to just keep it. In which case your conscience is clear. If not, well, that's OK, too. But I will say that it is quite the gorgeous looking bass. It must play and sound sweet, too...

    What 5-String Should I Try?

If I were looking for something a little different from the normal Fenders and MM's in a 5 string (and maybe I will some day)... I'd look at a Warwick fretless of some sort. Have not tried one yet. But I'd like to. Seems to be different enough from the usual to warrant a look.

Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray4 and Ray5, Part 2

Thanks for the very helpful info! It sounds like if I really want one of these metallic reds I had better get on it soon. I'll see what you guys have in store with the NAMM announcements The SUB series is pretty amazing in terms of tone, feel, and cost. The only thing that has...

Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray4 and Ray5, Part 2

Thanks for chiming in. I saw a photo of the Ray34 and Ray35 with the quilted maple veneer tops. Looks stellar in the photos. Will all the SUB series basses still be around or are any going away? (The SB4 in metallic red is the one that I have my eye on.) But with seeing SB4's...
