    basses without fret dots

I ordered my last 2 basses without inlays, I like the clean look. The basses have side dots for the quick reference. You should practice without looking at the neck, use a mirror if you need to see where you are at. That way you will get used to playing with your head up, facing your audience...

    Great, another band dilemma

This is very subjective in my opinion, I believe that you (any singer/musician) should do your own thing your own way. This of course means some will not like it. If those people are in your own band, then someone is in the wrong band. Find the art in what he does or find another singer, do...

The joys of playing naked ... without pedals that is!

Pedals are fun to play around with but what I really like is a clean full tone. The guitarists I've played with have usually made so much noise that being clean and punchy has been the only way to be heard while not adding to the noise factor. I don't want my bass to sound like a guitar. :bassist:

    Tone. Really that important?

Tone, technique, balance, and comfort. Matter! Name brands, product loyalties, and price tags do not.:D

    4401 vs jazz sound

    De Tuning

De-tuning? That's what my 5 string for! I hate loose strings, but guitarists seem to dig drop tuning (you see, even they know that bass is king) so with my XB75 35" scale I can hit those lows and still enjoy my nice tight responsive strings. My 2cents.

    Band Name Banner?

Name recognition is paramount! But big banners are a pain in the ass! I've played it two bands that tried to use them, and 8 times out of 10, we couldn't. Either there was no room on an overbooked stage or the headliner wouldn't allow us to put it up. (Yngwie Malmsteen threw a fit, it's was...

A personal insight on Fender popularity...

I agree that Fender's sound good, but to me they don't seem to fit quite right. Can't really say why. Still, they were the first and have earned their status. Rock on!:bassist:

    How to handle being bandless?

I hunt, after 20+ years of playing in original metal and cover rock bands, being in the mountains undertaking such a primal pursuit is very inspiring. After this season closes, I'll be ready to contribute again, at least mentally.:bassist::D
