How to take the focus off of the instrument choice and into the music?

I saw a video with Billy Sheehan where he said to stick with just one bass for a long time to really learn it. He said if you have a problem with the bass, solve it, don't switch instruments. Maybe good advice in your case?

    Official Ampeg Portaflex Club

I have a PF-500 with an issue and was wondering if its a common problem, or if anyone knows anything about it. Please - no responses about getting a qualified tech to look at it and similar. I'm an electrical engineer and have fixed many amps in my time - mostly tube amps though. But...

Tips for playing a song without other musicians (mainly a drummer)

Lots of good answers here about how to practice and improve your time. But from a practical view as an active player in a band, get the drummer to count it in for you and you can even have him play very quietly so you can stay in time.

    Short Scale Flatwound string ID

I found a set of flatwounds in my string box and put them on a Gibson Les Paul DC bass, and so far I'm liking them better than the chrome flatwounds that were on there. Unfortunately I didn't save the packaging and can't remember what they are. Short scale Black silks on the tuner side No silk...

Gibson Les Paul Bass Owners Club

I bought my black Jr in 2019 from AMC when they had a blowout sale for $549. Those days are long gone!

Yes the Jr's have a satin nitro finish. I'm not sure what's different about the nitro finish on the Jr's, but its not sticky at all. I've had a two other basses with nitro and both had sticky necks. The finish is thin too, at least on my black one. Its already worn through to the wood on the...

@scottm I prefer the juniors to regular LPs. I really like the "unfinished" feel.

Gibson Les Paul Bass Owners Club

The black one is my favorite. Its lightweight and the neck feels perfect. I've played it so much now that the paint is wearing off on the edges where my arm and body touch it, and along the neck around 3rd and 5th fret. Its not perfect though. The neck had a hump where it met the body, and the...

Gibson Les Paul Bass Owners Club

I'm looking for an original Gibson Bassbucker pickup from a Les Paul Junior DC bass. I have two of these basses. One has the original pickup, and the other has a Serek B90 that the previous owner put in. The Serek is brighter and punchier, but I prefer the sound of the original. I'll be happy...

Its going into the shop tomorrow to get bigger side dots. It has small black dots that I can't see at all on stage. I'm getting larger white ones installed.

Me too! Every bass has its own strap and they never come off. But, it was in the case to go to the shop tomorrow, and the strap has to come off to fit in the case. I decided to play it for a couple minutes and grabbed it out of the case and quickly put the strap on. I was actually putting on the...

I love the color. And it sounds great. Actually last week I changed the bridge. I was fine with the 3-point bridge, it setup well and worked great. But I had a black Hipshot supertone bridge that came off another bass, and I thought I would give it a try. I've done this before on Gibson and...
