    FatStrings Oversized Strat Bass

I meant to respond to this thread much, much earlier. I've been recovering from surgery, getting back to work, etc., and just haven't had the time. I am so unbelievably happy with this bass I just can't explain it. Here is an excerpt from an email I just sent to Pat: I will make sure to...

Lightly restoring an old Rick copy, need help

Thanks for the responses so far, gentlemen. I've done a very light cleaning on the guitar, it's been in a closet for 20 years and I didn't want to put it through too much all at once. When I got it, there were only two strings on it. When I removed those, the nut was stuck to the A string and...

Lightly restoring an old Rick copy, need help

That's what I was mainly wondering - if the Ric copies could/would use real Ric replacement parts. I'm not trying to pass it off as a Ric, and neither is the owner... when he told me he had a bass he wanted me to help him get in shape, he told me it was some kind of old Frankenstein bass that...

Lightly restoring an old Rick copy, need help

Sorry I haven't been able to get pictures up ye - it's been a busy few days, but I still figured I would bump this up. Should I have it moved to another section? Are people boycotting old Ric copies? Do I smell bad?

Lightly restoring an old Rick copy, need help

A friend of mine has been wanting to get back into playing bass for a while. I finally convinced him to dig his old bass out of the closet, it was a bass he'd described to me as a "Frankenstein bass" that bad been put together from a bunch of different parts. When he first showed it to me, I...

    Custom Strat Bass on Order

Bumpy bump! Need some ideas for these controls, folks! Anybody?

    Custom Strat Bass on Order

Okay, the bass is getting ever closer to being done, and it's time to decide on the control layout. There are no holes drilled in the pickguard yet, so ignore the picture for now. I'm after maximum flexibility with the fewest number of doodads. I'm staying passive, but need to figure out how...

venue refusing to sign a contract?

I don't think the terms are overly aggressive; I just think the venue probably isn't used to dealing with them and booking agent is likely nervous just because of the term 'contract.' I might would send him back an email and ask what type of performance agreements he's used in the past...

(Sort of) NBD: Essex Jazz content

I've had this bass around forever, have posted progress pics of it a time or two, but just today finally got around to putting it all together. There are a few more things to do to it, including new strings (all the sets I've got around the house are cut and won't work with the...

Gibson SG Faded Bass - fragile headstocks?

Tell that to all the victims of shaken bass syndrome. It's not something to play around with.

    Lightest 12" cab; one caveat.

I'm downsizing and upsizing my rig at the same time. I've had a Yorkville 4x10 forever, and it's just getting to be too big of a pain to lug around, up stairs, in and out of the back seat of my extended-cab truck, etc. From things I've read, I believe a 12" driver is what I'm looking for...

Revamping my rig; looking for a new micro amp

I'm much more of a vintage-style guy. All my basses are passive, mostly strung with flats, etc. Thanks for the suggestions so far! Last time I was buying amps, most of this stuff wasn't even around, so I have no idea what's even out there, and even less clue of what's 'good' or not. It's...

Revamping my rig; looking for a new micro amp

I've always used big, giant, ugly amps. I've never had a problem with them. It made me feel like a bass player to have a giant stack sitting next to me. It was my comfort blanket. However, my back isn't as strong as it once was, I'm starting to hate stairs, and a recent problem with my...

    Custom Strat Bass on Order

I would prefer not to say, but I will say that it's surprisingly affordable. Pat (FatStrings) is working with me and he's actually sort of building this in 'kit' form, similar to what I'd get from Warmoth, in order to save me money, him time finishing, and allow me to get some experience...
