What is wrong with my bass?

Common misconception/ terminology here on TB as well as string 'tension' referring to string stiffness- what to do..?

Soapbar Pickups for a six string at 19 mm string spacing

Bass originally a 6 string? That rout is EMG45 size and they have several offerings in that size. Not sure what Bart offers in that size, but check their site for options.

    Cobalt Flats Question

I measure enough to wrap to the bottom of the post- 3 or 4 fingers width. Bend/crimp a 90 there, then cut 5/8"or so past it. The short bent part goes down into the tuner hole. Be sure the first 90 coming out of the slot has a tight bend as well (same for 2nd run thru slot per EB instr. The...

    Cobalt Flats Question

The included instrs are easy to follow and special instrs are for reasons. ALWAYS CRIMP BEFORE CUT. Strings wrapped to low or bottom of tuner post have better break angle. Why risk a bad install by doing otherwise?

Yamaha RBX Series Owners Club (?)

Active preamp for sure, but prob passive alnico pickups like RBX775. Literature says active pickups, but they only have 2 wires. RBX675 says active pickups, but look just like RBX775 pickups- only way to know is check the pickup wires to see if a hot wire goes from the batt to them. I left one...

    High end Fender copies

I wouldn't call a build a 'copy' or 'clone' if the QC, fit, finish, consistency, and pickups/elecs etc are superior to something it looks similar to. Besides, if a player gets stuck in a situation where a bass 'has to look like that one', they should have an option for better or slightly...

Overly bassy low string. Pickup placement?

Try a different type of string- some basses accentuate certain string attributes.

    EMG Experts/Gurus, Help Please!

Pop the pickup out and look at the backside- it should have a sticker that shows 35DC or other 35 series model. 35DC is an active dual coil (not splitable), 35HZ is passive dual coil (splitable), 35P is an active split coil, 35J is an active single coil (like half of the 35DC), all these in the...

Anyone ever put a P pickup an inch away from the neck?

Single coil or split P? Usually either side of the octave (24th fret) rather than on it sounds better for most notes.

    Nylon tapes and piezo bridge

There is another thread running (33" fretless- piezo only 5 string) with a new bass built and the builder used a GraphTech piezo bridge with individual saddle/elements and has LaBella tapes on it- says they work great with that bridge.

    Nylon tapes and piezo bridge

On the Fishman type bridge (used in SpectorCore and other Cort made basses), steels, nickels, flats all work fine- it is the damping from the layer of nylon that impedes the crisp vibration transfer. Have not tried coated (like Black Beauties) tho.

    33'' Fretless - Piezo Only 5 String

Beautiful bass! Thanks for sharing. Question: are those black strings 'tapes', and if so- how well do they work with the GraphTech piezo? The Fishman/ Cort bridges are not sensitive enough.

    Nylon tapes and piezo bridge

There have been prev threads regarding this. Seems tapes work fine on piezo strip acoustic type bridges but not well on some bridges with individual saddle piezos such as that used in the Spector ref'd above. I have the same (Fishman) bridge in a Cort C5P and tapes only work well if a little...
