Hello all, So I currently own a Roland Micro Cube Bass amp and a Hartke Hydrive 410 + LH500, and I love them both. However, in the fall, I'm going off to college, and neither of those amps are going to work. The Hartke is much too big and heavy, and I won't have a car at least the first year...

I find that I play pizz right on top of the end of the fingerboard and my arco sweet spot is about an inch lower when playing high up on the bass. I think you just need to bow a little bit lower and you'll be fine. Jeremy

Oh yes. Take Jaco's advice: the bass is a beautiful instrument, well suited to playing any part of a song, not just the bass line. Learn melodies and chords other rhythms and all parts of music, and you can be an entire band with just a bass. I am in many bands, but I still write my own...

In my experience, the Hercules Autogrips mounted into a wall stud or a wood strip holds almost anything. I don't have any 13lb basses, but it holds my 10 pounder with no problem whatsoever. Jeremy

Hmmm... I'd say your upper size limit is somewhere around a 115-210 area. If I were you, I'd go to the nearest music store, try out all their small and light preamps through all their small and light cabs until you find a combination you like. Jeremy

Thanks. He seemed to be talking about it as a different approach to analyzing chords in new ways in order to play out. Thanks for the background on it. I'm going to do some digging to see if it is really worth the effort to learn. Jeremy

If only you went for a rosewood fingerboard... That would have done it for me.

Three words: Get a teacher. It may seem lame or too expensive, or like you just don't need to do it, but it isn't. It's worth it. A good teacher will improve your playing and knowledge at a highly accelerated rate compared to learning on your own.

If you're planning to keep it around in the stable, I'd go Warmoth every single time. I love 'em. However, if you might want to sell it in a little while, Fenders will have a MUCH higher resale value. But, I think a custom Warmoth kicks the crap out of MIA Fender.
