I am looking to purchase one of these wooden basses from MOG, but no one has mentioned how the bass was purchased? I have been speaking with Andreas who has been very patient with all my purchase and shipping questions but my biggest concern is the fact I have to send cash with no form of...

Double Bass Is your bass exposed to at least 50% moisture?

you will never see a carved instrument, older than 40yrs without some type of repair work. It would be interesting to hear a strativarius with no repairs and original strings. If we had a time machine !!!!! ahh but we can dream.....

    Double Bass Stupid Accident

Oh boy here we go....Bro I am not pushing anything, but funny that I would be getting kick backs from the water company. Very nice. I will explain AGAIN my statement. I am simply saying that between 40 and 50% is fine unless you live in the desert or dry areas of the world, but this is a...

Double Bass Is your bass exposed to at least 50% moisture?

To arnoldschnitzer.... I don't agree with you entirely. however it really depends on the environment on the outside, if you live in the desert 0% and you keep your instrument at 60% then yes that would be a problem, but I wasn't talking about drastic climates, but a good point non the less

You might want to get a hygrometer for your instrument so you can keep an eye on it. A carved instrument ( when its newly carved ) will dry out in about 2-3 years, then the opportunity for cracks will start

    Double Bass BROKEN NECK

This is a very nice looking bass you have, I will say the same as others and take it to a properly set up repair shop, It also looks like epoxy was used at one time which is a real shame and should never be used on this type of repair, Hide glue is always the best. You will have to remove the...

Double Bass Is your bass exposed to at least 50% moisture?

It is amazing to me even in today's age where you will see so many carved instruments with cracks that could have been prevented with the correct moisture in a room. A small humidifier ( air drawn, not steam !! ) in a room where your bass is stored ( if you have a plywood bass I would not worry...

    Double Bass Stupid Accident

That sounds about the right price range, depending on inspection of the inside. Maybe you will get lucky and the top won't have to come off. Quick question....Is you bass in a moisture environment of at least 50%? If not the bass will have to sit in the repair shop at 50% for at least a month...
