Would you be offended if a band asked you to play a P bass?

I would say yes, provided that I was allowed to put my choice of strings on it.

Popular Rock or metal songs played with fretless

Chris Squire used a fretless on side 2 of Topographic Oceans.

    Wal Bass Club.

Wal basses first came to my attention in 1977 in the credits of the album Round the Back by Scottish band Café Jacques: John G. Perry - Wal custom bass This is the same guy who was in the Quantum Jump video above. Here are some tracks from that album: Farewell My Lovely Eberehtel Meaningless

Who is the most successful 'minimalist' bass player you know?

I agree. It means a player who underplays deliberately. And it doesn't necessarily imply lack of ability, half-heartedness or less intensity.

I was once a victim of an ebay scam. I was advised to report it to the Australia cybercrimes unit. I did that and they passed it to local police where the seller was based. The police followed it up and I send them various pieces of evidence as requested. They eventually caught up with the guy...

I believe you. I was just saying that this is new information to me and explaining why I had been believing otherwise until now.

That was never mentioned at the time when the Mk series was introduced. Just new tone circuitry, pull-out pots, exotic timbers and slightly different neck construction.

I believe that the pickup was the same in the active and passive versions. When the Pro series was first released there was an option to convert a II to a IIe and a I to a Ie via a conversion kit. The kit did not include a different pickup as far as I know. If it did, then the cost of conversion...

From what I remember of early write-ups about Wal pickups, there was never any mention of series or parallel. I had the impression that the normal position was parallel, while the switches added what they called "coil taps".

You might need to keep them if you hope to be able to play a Wal bass standing up.

Regardless of settings, with or without boost, any Wal bass will almost always cut through in a mix.

I was thinking along the lines of a former site called Dude Pit. It had a Wal Bass sub-forum.

Wow! I started reading this thread from the beginning months ago and I've finally reached the end today. I don't like posting in any thread without reading the whole thing first, but this one was ridiculously long. Wouldn't it be better to have a Wal sub-forum so that users could discuss...

Uber bassists- I don't get it.

The OP mentioned Entwistle and Squire as examples of virtuosos who were doing it right. I agree. They played busily, but did it all within the context of the song, acknowledging the melody at all times. They were playing complex counterpoint that enhanced whatever the other instruments were...
