    Walrus Audio Badwater Bass Preamp

I just got a Badwater. I like how it sounds as an always-on pre with a low gain and blend; just a hint of texture and chunkiness. I didn't have too terribly much noise/hiss from it even at extreme settings on the hi mid and treble, but I haven't used the DI out, yet. The sin for me was the...

NBD - Hot pile of garbage Soviet-era Borisov Formanta

Well, it plays. It sounds pretty decent, too; I'll probably make some recordings tomorrow. It's late and I need to head to bed. I tuned it CFA#D# with the .105 .080 .065 .045 strings I had on hand and the tension was good there. It felt tight as I tried to even do DGCF, but it's a 32" scale...

NBD - Hot pile of garbage Soviet-era Borisov Formanta

Soon. I decided to oil the fretboard. And it soaked it up so fast I added another coat while typing this lol. It was so dry it looked like dry, wrinkled leather ;_; [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

NBD - Hot pile of garbage Soviet-era Borisov Formanta

Yesterday I was attempting to put it back together, forgot I had not screwed the pickguard back on, and it fell just enough to snap the wires from being connected to the output jack. So I put it aside until later this week or the weekend lol... I plan to clamp the neck to the body, install the...

NBD - Hot pile of garbage Soviet-era Borisov Formanta

It begins... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] I tried sanding the finish off on the heel and it was thicc AF and somehow I started sanding it not-flat sooo I left it alone for now. Tomorrow I'll unclamp it, cut off the extra dowel bits, drill it out, and see what happens :D

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

I've since tuned all my guitars this way, in 4ths. My 8-strings are G1 to F#4, my 7 will probably end up C2 to F# or G1 to C#, because on the 8s the 7th string is C and the 6th is F, so they'll all be a happy little stringed instrument family. My 5-string basses are also tuned half a step up, so...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Yes, it's tuned from the factory like a guitar but an octave lower, just like a Bass VI. I play guitar, but I hate that cheeky minor third in the middle of the course of strings, so I tuned it EADGCF instead :) (ie, perfect 4ths). I use a .020 wound for the 1st string. Currently it's tuned...

I decided I didn't want a brown SRC6... Before: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] And after: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] It's at least ten times more metal, now.

    Silicone rubber strings?!?

lol yeah. I saw the date 2000 and went "hoo boy who resurrected this thing??" It sat silent for a decade before its first resurrection, then 6 years, and now 4. Once it dies off again, we should hear from it again in 2024 or possibly early 2025 at this rate. I'll be waiting.

    Are you superstitious about strings?

    Not even slightly.

Your favorite pedal under $50 new

I have a $35 CoolMusic Insane that's a shockingly good distortion pedal for heavy music. Before I got my Zoom G1 I put it in front of my Darkglass Element (Guitar cab IRs) and recorded/played from the DI out to my sound card.

    Always On!

Same for my B6  But in all seriousness, Zoom's ZNR noise reduction is really good, and I EQ out the extreme sub bass frequencies, in every preset just about.
