    Bass Guitar Strap-Planet Waves Padded

Just bought one of those padded, 3" wide Planet Waves straps. I'm not really that impressed with it. The width is good, but the edges are rough and I constantly feel them digging into my neck. Also, something about the way the buckles are located seems to constantly place one on my shoulder...

The Official Medium Scale Bass Club

Really appreciate hearing that. I built it myself from rock maple and bubinga a little while ago. The neck and and fretwork were a challenge, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I think i might build another in walnut with maple stripes and a rosewood fretboard, but with jazz pickups instead...

The Official Medium Scale Bass Club

Here's my contribution. I'm slowly growing to like this one better than the standard P-Bass I've been playing.

Truss rod for 32" scale neck

Thanks, great info here. I didn't know that I could cut the rod - wasn't sure what was inside the round tube with the adjusting bolt at the end. Also appreciate the rule of thumb - heel to middle of 1st fret. I can work with that. Sorry for delay in getting back to all of you. I thought I...

Truss rod for 32" scale neck

Making my first bass from scratch, a medium scale maple and bubinga special. Got my truss rod today, a 23 1/4" dual-action jobby from Grizzly Industrial and see now that I have a problem. I think the rod is too long for my neck. Which brings up a few questions about these suckers. The...

    Saga bass kits

I realize this is a pretty old thread, but in case anyone is looking for feedback now on whether to buy a Saga P-Bass kit now, I would give a qualified "yes" answer. I bought one of these kits in August of this year for $140 on Amazon and have been pretty happy with it. It's not great...

    Distortion caused by compressor pedal

Hey, appreciate all the helpful advice from people, but I think I found the problem. I got home prepared to crank the bias knob to the right, and to experiment with lowering the pickups, but then I realized that the little red light on the pedal was kinda dim. I found a new battery, got...

    Distortion caused by compressor pedal

Yes, I do have a Gain knob on the pedal. But it seems that if I leave the "Compression" setting dialed up past say 20%, I can reduce to Gain to where I almost have no sound - and it still causes the speaker to make a disgusted sound. Maybe it's not actually tube distortion, but the speaker...

    Distortion caused by compressor pedal

Thanks, that's useful to know. Unfortunately, the Uni-Comp doesn't have a setting to alter release time. It does have a "Bias" knob that acts like a band pass EQ (according to the ovnilab website). I currently have it set to trim out high freqs, so about 1/2 way into the "Low" region. Maybe...

    Distortion caused by compressor pedal

Hi All, New member of TB as of today. I have a question regarding the effect of a compressor pedal. I just bought a Moen Uni-Comp a week ago and am generally loving it. However, I'm noticing that when I turn the compression up past a very low point, my amp starts to clip when I play low...
