Really appreciate hearing that. I built it myself from rock maple and bubinga a little while ago. The neck and and fretwork were a challenge, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I think i might build another in walnut with maple stripes and a rosewood fretboard, but with jazz pickups instead. Have to see if that will work with the string spacing and this scale length.

Couple observations I've made with this bass so far: the strings feel harder than on my 34" bass, it balances better, it sounds a bit snarly (possibly because of DiMarzio pup), shorter scale takes a couple weeks to get used to from the standpoint of not looking when shifting position.

Overall, it's pretty good.

Whait is the winding length of strings a Warwick Rockbass Corvette Medium scale will accept? The bridge looks like it might just be far enough back to take some manufacturers Longs.

I don't think that anyone actually owns one yet but I assume that full length string would work. You could trim as needed.

Hey - the background in your avatar is Burgundy Mist, no wonder you like it.

I think the only things left to do are buff the headstock face, cut & etch the pick guard, mount the controls, pickup, bolt the neck back on and set it up. Nothing compared to the refinish. The original finish (poly over black) was impervious to the strongest stripping chemicals known to John. He had to sand the old finish off.

just wanted to share that i am VERY happy with my - while odd - very comfortable neck conversion using a 34 Turser neck and turning it into a 32 'custom' J/P neck (with at nut is exactly half way from J to P)

I've used a Capo to similarly play around with scale lengths to jusge fretting distance comfort.

Capo behind the second fret on my 34" and it becomes a 30" that when downtuned without the capo become standard tuning short scale with.

Leo made sure all his scales could be cut on the same machine, altering only how far down the machinist set it to go. If you measure on a 34" neck you will find it is pretty dead on at 30", 25.4", 24", and 22.5" with certain frets, at least as close as the instruments with those necks come themselves.

my mind is sort of blown by this concept. so if you capo 2nd position then the double dot 12th position becomes 10th?

what model is that Aria?

It's a SLB-2. There doesn't seem to be much info floating around on these basses. I've posted it in the Aria club, but no one seems to know when they were made. It's a solid bass, though.

What do you carry your medium scale bass in?

I just landed a mid-80s E-series 32" Precision, and the gig bag that came with it is, shall we say, "inadequate." (read: might as well be a shopping bag)

I'd like to stay with a bag over a hard case, but ideally, it would be a heavy-duty one like a Mono or Rockbag.

Nice score! Sorry, no advice on an approved carrying container. Mine came with a hard case.
